Logitech Mobile Video 6.0 Delivers Better, Faster Video to Cell Phones
March 2004 - Logitech just announced at CTIA Wireless 2004 the release of Logitech Mobile Video 6.0, an enhanced version of a service launched last year in the U.S. Using applications developed by San Francisco-based generationPIX, consumers can view live webcam images from their cellular phone. The new version of Logitech Mobile Video, which ships with every Logitech web camera, offers increased frame rates and higher image quality to improve the overall viewing experience.
Logitech also announced that the service will now be available outside the U.S., to wireless customers in Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Peru, Ecuador and Argentina.
"For more than a year, Logitech has been delivering on the promise of real-time video for mobile phone customers. We're encouraged by an adoption rate that far exceeds our original expectations," said Spencer Johnson, director of product marketing for Logitech's Video Business Unit. "With improved client software in place, and additional coverage outside the United States, we're in an excellent position to begin marketing our service to an international audience."
Using the Logitech Mobile Video service, wireless customers of participating carriers can view real-time images from public Web cameras such as traffic cams, as well as password-protected private Web cameras, from anywhere, anytime. A one-way video image is visible directly from the phone's LCD screen. For a private session, viewers simply enter an appropriate password before being connected to the desired webcam. To be sure a special live video moment isn't missed, an SMS message notification alerts customers when someone from their "Friends List" comes online with real-time images to share.
Logitech Web camera owners who are already using Logitech Mobile Video and want to upgrade their desktop application, or individuals desiring to produce private or public video content using a Logitech® QuickCam® webcam, can download the free software by visiting www.logitechmobilevideo.com. There is no charge for posting video; however, viewing from a mobile phone handset requires a service fee, which is set by the mobile service provider. To upgrade phone handset software, users need to visit their wireless provider's Web site.
