HP and AT&T Wireless To Offer Customers Wireless Access to Information at the To
March 2003--HP and AT&T Wireless are working to extend the reach of mobile computing by offering customers seamless wireless access to critical information while on the road.
In conjunction with HP Services, AT&T Wireless Link+Sync software -- part of the AT&T Wireless WorkWare solution -- and Sierra Wireless GPRS AirCard modems, connection and synchronization from Compaq Evo notebooks or Tablet PCs can be achieved with just a touch of a button, enabling fast access to critical information.
"HP works to understand the needs of customers, offering greater flexibility and choice through its leading infrastructure and services capabilities," said Peter Lawrence, manager for wireless solutions, HP Mobile Computing Global Business Unit. "Working with AT&T Wireless, HP is providing customers with a simple wireless solution to access critical information from virtually any location."
To simplify access from any wireless-ready notebook or Tablet PC to Microsoft Exchange and Microsoft Outlook, HP customers will have access to AT&T Wireless Link+Sync software -- a custom "one-button-sync" software wizard that provides remote access over the AT&T Wireless high-speed data network. Users simply click the Link+Sync button to perform a wireless synchronization of Outlook using their existing virtual private network infrastructure to access their corporate e-mail, calendar, contacts and more.
"Utilizing the HP and AT&T Wireless solution, mobile professionals will be able to begin using new wireless features immediately without having to learn new software protocols since they are fully integrated with familiar Microsoft applications," said Valerie Kahn, senior vice president, AT&T Wireless Mobile Multimedia Services.
The solutions are designed on the global standard of wireless technology, GSM/GPRS, allowing business customers to use their new wireless capabilities in locations around the world. In addition, the solutions are planned to be available to users of all Compaq Evo notebook PCs and the HP Compaq Tablet PC TC1000.
