Audiovox Debuts Bar-Style, Color Handsets

October 21, 2003 - Boasting a full-color display, voice-activated dialing, and numerous other popular wireless phone features, Audiovox Communications Corporation’s (ACC) new CDM-8400 Series of wireless handsets have the look and feel of a high-priced handset without the budget-breaking price tag. A subsidiary of Audiovox Corporation (NASDAQ: VOXX) and a North American technology leader in CDMA (code division multiple access) handsets, ACC is showcasing its CDM-8400 Series (CDM-8400/8450) at CTIA Wireless IT & Entertainment 2003, being held from October 21-23, in Las Vegas.

The CDM-8400/8450 phones have a compact, bar-style form factor and a large, eight-line LCD with a 4,096-color display. This tri-mode (800 MHz Amps/CDMA, 1900 MHz PCS) handset comes with the MSM6050 chipset, and is CDMA20001X-capable, enabling data connection rates as high as 144 kbps.

The CDM-8400 is BREW-capable and the CDM-8450 is Java-capable, making them practical and popular for gaming, web-browsing and other wireless functions users have come to expect from today’s leading-edge handsets. The series offers SMS text messaging, CMX 32 polyphonic ring tones and even a built-in speakerphone.

“The CDM-8400 and CDM-8450 handsets offer form, function and fun for wireless phone users at an attractive price, ” said ACC president and CEO, Philip Christopher. “Keeping with the Audiovox tradition of making new technology available in many different price ranges, ACC is proud to bring these handsets to carriers and consumers.”
