AccuWeather Unveils New Premium Wireless Application at CTIA in Las Vegas
October 22, 2003 - AccuWeather, Inc., the world's leading commercial weather service, announced today its latest release of AccuWeather.com Premium, an upgrade to their previous award-winning AccuWeather.com Wireless Application. This new application will be demonstrated at the Cellular Telecommunications and Internet Association (CTIA) Trade Show in Las Vegas, NV (booth # 1221.)
Built in both J2ME and Qualcomm's BREW technology, AccuWeather Premium builds on the AccuWeather.com Wireless Application's extensive list of features. These include AccuWeather's pinpointed 10-day local forecasts; detailed Hour-by-Hour Forecasts; snow, ice and rain forecasts; zoomable radar animations for local, metro, state and regional radars; and regional and national satellite imagery.
AccuWeather.com Premium complements and enhances these features. The enhancements offer greater ease of use, additional forecast maps and valuable new tools, all tied together with a design that is more colorful and pleasing to the eye.
Valuable New Tools
Along with enhancing existing features, the update includes a variety of
new tools that add even more value to the leading wireless application for
weather. For example, the new version of the application contains the
AccuPOP probability of precipitation. AccuPOP gives precipitation
probabilities in three-hour increments for the next four days. AccuPOP also
gives precipitation amounts at the next three hours, the next six hours, the
next 12 hours, the next 24 hours, the next 48 hours and the next 96 hours.
The updated application also includes severe weather information, including access to National Weather Service watches and warnings and updates on hurricanes in the Atlantic and Pacific from the AccuWeather.com Hurricane Center.
Other new tools include health-related information, such as air quality, pollen type and UV indices, and sunrise and sunset times.
Greater Ease of Use
Additional Forecast Maps
AccuWeather .com Premium now makes it easier to find forecast information
for multiple locations. When a user first downloads the application, it asks
the user to enter a city or zip code. Previously, the user could only choose
one location, but with the updated AccuWeather.com Premium application, a
user can include multiple locations. This enables one to quickly and easily
check the weather for other locations of interest, such as a city where the
user frequently travels for business or the location of a parent's house.
Also, users can access five-day forecasts for international cities, which is
helpful for business travelers and vacation planning.
Along with the many maps currently offered by AccuWeather.com Premium application, the new AccuWeather.com Premium Wireless Application provides a variety of information-packed maps. These include new precipitation forecast maps at a state or regional level for the next five days. The application will offer maps with predicted amounts of snow, ice and rain and chance of thunderstorms.
"With the release of the AccuWeather.com Premium application, AccuWeather, the world's weather authority, solidifies its role as the leader in wireless weather services," says Jim Candor, Senior Vice President of New Media for AccuWeather, Inc., said. "With its access to up-to-the-minute weather information in a user-friendly format, this application is a must-have for users of wireless devices."
