Toshiba Ships Notebook PC with a 17-inch Wide-Screen Display
July 2003 - Toshiba's Computer Systems Group (CSG) today announced the availability of Satellite P25-S507, Toshiba's first notebook PC featuring a 17.0" diagonal wide-screen (1440 x 900) display. Creating a new era of home entertainment unique to the mobile computing industry, the Satellite P25-S507 combines digital media, wireless Internet access and a personal theater experience into a single device that can be used in the comfort of any personal living space.
The Satellite P25-S507 is packaged in an attractive dark blue metallic design, creating a centerpiece entertainment device that can easily be shown on a coffee table, living room or home office. Complementing the design with a high-end audio system, two silver harman/kardon stereo speaker grills rest on each side of the notebook delivering unprecedented sound quality from a mobile PC. Users will also find a full-size keyboard and large palm rest area positioned on clear backdrop.
College students living in a small dorm room can take advantage of the unit's built-in CD, DVD-R/RW functionality and stereo sound, eliminating the need to purchase a separate CD and DVD player. With built-in dual Wi-Fi (IEEE 802.11a/b) wireless connectivity, PC enthusiasts and families can access their wireless home network from any room in the home to check e-mail, conduct Web research and utilize the 17.0" display to edit and view two documents side-by-side. Ideal for gaming enthusiasts, the Satellite P25-S507 includes the NVIDIA GeForce(tm) FX Go5200 graphics processing unit, delivering rich color texture and 3D imagery to enhance the gaming experience.
According to a recent survey conducted by Harris Interactive Inc., the personal computer outranked the television, stereo, CD player and DVD player as the most important entertainment device in the home. The survey also found that the computer is being used in more social settings such as the living room, kitchen and family room.
Power, Performance and Expansion
In addition to its multimedia and entertainment feature-set, the Satellite P25-S507 includes the Intel Pentium 4 Processor with Hyper-Threading Technology. Hyper-Threading Technology allows for better system responsiveness and performance when performing two or more applications simultaneously. Delivering added expansion and storage capabilities, the Satellite P25-S507 includes four USB 2.0 ports and a DVD-R/RW multi-function drive to back up large data files.
Users can also enjoy the flexibility of the modular bay, ready for a second hard drive or a second optical drive.
