Toshiba’s New Notebook Blends Features With Innovation for Under $1,1000

Jan. 2005 – Toshiba’s Digital Products Division, a division of Toshiba America Information Systems, Inc. and provider of industry-leading portable computers, projectors and other mobile-related services and products, today introduced the Tecra A3 notebook that includes all the essential features necessary for a quality mobile computing experience at an affordable price.

“We are excited and confident the market will find the Tecra A3 to be a worthy mobile computing solution for the needs of business, education and government organizations,” said Taro Hiyama, vice president of marketing, Digital Products Division, Toshiba America Information Systems. “The overall functionality and cost equation makes the Tecra A3 an intelligent investment for any organization looking to expand or rollout mobile computing solutions for its employees.”

The Tecra A3 incorporates the next-generation Intel Centrino Mobile Technology (formerly codenamed Sonoma). This new technology is built around Intel Pentium M processors with 533 MHz front side bus, integrated Intel PRO/Wireless 2200 BG Network Connection (802.11 b/g wireless LAN) and the new Mobile Intel 915 Express Chipset (formerly codenamed Alviso). This combination of features enables the Tecra A3 to deliver better performance with improved wireless and mobile security options.

Equipped with a 15-inch XGA display, the Tecra A3 features an integrated CD-RW/DVD-ROM optical disc drive, 40GB hard drive, 256MB memory (expandable to 2GB) and the Microsoft Windows XP Professional operating system. The Tecra A3 comes bundled with ConfigFree, Toshiba’s intuitive graphic wireless management utility. One-touch undocking option for simple desk-to-mobile computing is another value-added feature of the Tecra A3.

The Tecra A3 is available with either a one-year limited warranty with Toshiba’s premier, global service for the mobile computing user. Customers can choose from several service options, including extended warranties, carry-in support at Authorized Service Providers throughout the country for same-day or next-day service, or utilizing any of more than 3,000 UPS Stores for packaging and delivery of the product to a centralized Depot for 24-hour service turnaround.

Toshiba offers Ask Iris Online, an instant response information service that can alert users to security software patches or provide other information regarding their product from Toshiba engineers and technical support staff.

The Tecra A3 will be available in January through Toshiba’s traditional channels, including dealers, VARs and distributors as well as ToshibaDirect (www.toshibadirect.com). Toshiba’s newest editions to the Tecra family feature an estimated single unit price of $1,099 for the Tecra A3-S611 (one-year limited warranty).

The following accessories are available for the Tecra A3: an advanced port replicator, a backup primary six-cell Lithium-Ion battery, a high-capacity, 12-cell Lithium-Ion battery, an additional AC Adapter as well as a wide selection of carrying cases.
