The Future of Video Messaging
There’s a new way to turn your computer into a video-phone -- it’s as easy as installing a small camera on top of your monitor.
The next generation of instant messaging is Apple’s iSight; it’s a camera specifically designed for Apple computers to be used in tandem with iChat AV messaging software. When used together, it turns your computer into a 2-way videophone. The iSight itself is a high quality 640 x 40 video camera with a built in noise canceling microphone -- all it has is one firewire connection that plugs right into your Mac. When you want to turn the thing off, turn the lens and you immediately have privacy.
We like this better than any webcam tested to date because this is the first time the software and hardware have been developed at the same time specifically for each other. Best of all, if you have a broadband connection and your friend has a broadband connection the two of you can be anywhere in the world and do real-time video phone conferencing and it doesn’t cost you a single dime, its absolutely free.
Right now it’s only for Apple users but expect to see a Windows version sometime next year. The iSight is $149, iChat 80 software is a free download at apple.com
