The Fastest - Acer's New DVD-ROM and CD-RW
Sept. 26, 2001 - Acer Communications &
Multimedia America Inc. (CMA) just announced two new internal storage
units. The Acer DVP 1648A has the fastest data transfer rate on the
market with 16x DVD-ROM, 48 CD-ROM. The 2410A is Acer's fastest
internal CD-RW with speeds of 24x write, 10 re-write and 40x read
performance. Both units will begin shipping in October with MSRPs of
$99 and $149, respectively.
The Acer DVP 1648A also offers a low vibration mechanism, low
noise design and a value-added DVD playback software bundling:
InterVideo WinDVD. In addition, with WinDVD, the 1648A is
XP-compliant.
The software bundle includes:
The 2410A offers Acer's patented "Seamless Link" technology that allows for efficient burning at high speeds and offers an excellent management solution for buffer under-run problems. Unlike many of the competition that employ software versions of this technology, Acer offers a fully embedded firmware solution for improved performance and reliability. In the past, when buffer under-runs occurred, the user's only option was to throw away the disc and start again. But with "Seamless Link" this problem is solved. By allowing the driver to automatically monitor the progress of a recording, "Seamless Link" is able to store the RecEnd address if the data in the buffer falls below a certain level. Once the buffer is again full, the RecEnd address is located and the recording proceeds - all transparent to the user. The gap created between the stop and restart point on the recording is then closed by "Seamless Link." In addition, "Seamless Link" gives end users greater confidence in running other applications during the CD writing process and freedom from the time and frustration of retries due to a buffer under run incident.
Other key features of the 2410A include:
