May 2004 -Targus Inc., inventor of the notebook case and the preeminent provider of mobile accessory solutions, today released the USB 2.0 Rewriteable DVD +/- RW Slim External Drive.
Targus' new drive weighs less than a pound and measures less than an inch thick, making it the perfect travel companion for mobile professionals. It is also ideal for corporate IT departments needing to upgrade or extend their company's computing assets at a minimal cost.
The Targus Rewriteable DVD +/- RW Slim External Drive is a USB 2.0 Hi-Speed device compatible with all computing solutions that support USB connectivity. The USB connection also allows the drive to draw power directly from the computer. This makes the drive truly portable by reducing the number of cables and freeing users from traveling with an additional power adapter. The drive requires no additional drivers to operate and is hot-pluggable, allowing users to connect and disconnect the drive without rebooting the system.
Targus new drive supports all popular media formats, including CD, CD-R, CD-RW, DVD-ROM, DVD-R, DVD+R, DVD-RW and DVD-RW. The company bundles the drive with Nero 6.0 software, which enables users to organize, edit, play, view and store data onto a variety of optical media.
In addition to the full spectrum of multimedia capabilities, users can also utilize the drive's DVD writing functionality as a backup strategy when on the road and disconnected from the company network. With DVDs capable of storing up to 4.7GB of data, users can quickly burn all essential information to a disc, ensuring important files are safe should the notebook be lost, stolen or damaged.
"Providing full compatibility with the multiple media types available on the market today, the USB 2.0 Rewriteable DVD Slim External Drive provides users with a reliable solution for upgrading notebooks that don't have an integrated DVD player or recorder," said Alex Ishimi, product manager for Targus. "With an ultra slim form factor, light weight and excellent performance, users can also use the drive to store data, photos, music and video files anywhere."
