Targus Debuts New Line of USB Flash Drives

April 2004 --Targus Inc., inventor of the notebook case and the preeminent provider of mobile accessory solutions, today unveiled its new USB Flash Drive line, available in capacities of 128MB, 256MB and 512MB.

Targus' new thumb-sized USB Flash Drives, weighing only half an ounce, allow users to easily transport files, graphics, presentations, music or multimedia files between computers. User-specified public and private password-protected partitions keep data organized and protected in the case of theft or loss. Featuring a unique, slender design, once attached to a notebook or docking station, the drive won't block adjacent USB ports, making it compatible with all USB port configurations.

"The small form factors of flash drives have made them an extremely popular medium for storing and transporting data," said Alex Ishimi, product manager for Targus. "Our flash drives differentiate themselves from others on the market by offering secure, reliable data protection in a configurable drive. If a user's computer hard drive should fail, the flash drive is boot-capable, allowing users to retrieve data saved on the flash drive as it appeared at the time of the last backup. Users also have the ability to configure the drive so that all data is password protected, or define only a certain portion of the drive as password protected."

The portable storage device can be clipped onto a shirt pocket, attached to a key chain or carried using the included lanyard. The plug-and-play device requires no software driver installation, and can be connected and disconnected without shutting down and restarting the notebook. However, Targus does bundle software with its flash drive that allows it to double as a backup drive. Files can also by synced between the flash drive and the user's notebook computer.

The USB Flash Drives are currently available through Targus' corporate sales channel, online at electronics e-tailers and on the company Web site (www.targus.com). Retail pricing for the drives ranges between $59.99 and $199.99 and all include limited two-year warranties. Targus plans to roll out a 1GB version of the drive in Q3 of this year.
