Talkway Enters Video Email Partnership with BIGLOBE

September 2002 -- Talkway Communications (www.talkway.com), a leading Multimedia Content Delivery Service Provider, announced an agreement to provide its audio and video email solution to BIGLOBE, one of the largest ISPs in Japan, which is wholly owned by NEC. BIGLOBE will re-brand Talkway’s VmailTalk video email product and name it Motion Letter in Japan. With Talkway’s technology, more than four million BIGLOBE customers (as of June 2002) now have the ability to easily create and send high-fidelity audio and video email messages to friends, family and business associates.

As part of the Talkway and BIGLOBE agreement, each BIGLOBE subscriber can download the video email service and create and send five video email messages (not exceeding 30 seconds in length) to be used within a one month period for free. If the consumer enjoys the service, they can sign up for a package of 20 videos (also not exceeding 30 seconds in length) for 300 Yen per month (equivalent to about $2.75 U.S. dollars). Monthly fees will appear as part of the user’s standard BIGLOBE charge, so the billing is integrated.

According to Yoshiyuki Koseki, Assistant General Manager of BIGLOBE, “Talkway Communications’ audio and video email product is essential to BIGLOBE in our quest to provide much better services to customers. Talkway’s service offers our customers an added communications tool when they communicate on the Internet. As Japanese consumers are generally shy, we feel they will not record any video email message longer than 30 seconds, so the agreement with Talkway is perfect. If we find consumers want more time in their videos, the offer may be updated in the future. We are very pleased to be working with a company of Talkway’s stature.”

“Talkway Communications is very excited to enter into this partnership with NEC’s BIGLOBE,” states Fabrice Hamaide, CEO of Talkway Communications. “This is an example of two state-of-the-art technology companies working together to provide a high-end audio and video email solution that offers consumers a fun and easy way communicate with friends, family and business contacts.”

Talkway’s audio and video email product provides users with simple-to-use controls to create and send video emails directly from today’s popular email programs. The VmailTalk, or Motion Letter, graphical user interface is completely integrated into the user’s existing email software and incorporates the video camera controls as well as a live feed from the user’s camera.

Once users record a message, it is immediately streamed to Talkway's own content servers, eliminating local storage requirements and speeding the delivery of the finished message. Recipients of the audio video message will automatically see the video play within the body of the email, which is streamed from Talkway’s servers. The servers in Talkway's advanced Data Center automatically download a compact yet powerful playback applet, so recipients do not need any special software to view video content.

Talkway Communications has achieved extraordinary success by offering an array of streaming audio and video solutions for individuals, corporate users and E-marketing professionals, all based on their proprietary audio and video compression technology. The unique, Java based system does not require the recipient to install any extra software to view messages, and the increased compression ratios achieved by the technology allow effective transmission through both broadband and dialup connections, with clear audio and smooth, high-quality video at speeds as high as 30 frames per second.
