StarFlyers - New Software Designed to Spark The Power of a Child's Imagination

Fantasy Space Adventures Build Critical Thinking and Logic Skills Encourage Kids to Think Creatively and Have Fun Feb. 11 /PRNewswire/ -- The Learning Company today announced the launch of StarFlyers, an original line of software designed to inspire a child's imagination and provide fun, wholesome entertainment. Developed over the past three years for boys and girls ages 5 to 8, StarFlyers software adventures take place in a fantasy space world that is filled with highly engaging, interactive puzzles and games. Kids build critical thinking and problem-solving skills as they travel through a fantasy universe with real world connections. Royal Jewel Rescue and Alien Space Chase, the first two StarFlyers CD-ROM adventures, will be available this summer for both Windows and Macintosh computers.

At the helm of the StarFlyers software adventures is an exciting cast of creative characters. Katherine Cadell, leader of the StarFlyers, is a pint-sized girl with a powerhouse imagination. In her imaginary world, she becomes Katie Cadet, the roughest, toughest, bravest, most famous star pilot in the whole galaxy. She joins a cast of cool, quirky "friends," each appearing in her fantasy space world as a valued member of the StarFlyers team. Ajay, Katie's best friend, is an ace at computers and electronics. In Katie's imagination, he becomes AJ the Super Spinner endowed with random super powers guaranteed to get the StarFlyers out of any jam. Klanker is Katie's toy robot. Built from a cardboard box and an old paint can in the real world, Klanker becomes a super-powerful robot, with the brains of a tomato, in Katie's fantasy world. Io is Katie's beloved, three-eyed dog puppet, originally rescued from the toy store's defective bin. Io transforms into a fearless, fire-breathing, flying dragon-dog loyally defending the StarFlyers team. Victor Wexlar, a neighborhood bully and the terror of every kid except for Katie, becomes Lord Vexar, scourge of the universe and Katie's archenemy.

Each StarFlyers space adventure has a real world event as its origin. From Katie dropping her mother's jewelry box and scattering jewelry all over the house, to Victor Wexler letting pets loose at Bring-Your-Pet-To-School Day, these real world fantasy adventures are designed to delight and encourage the imagination of children.

"This is more than an interactive cartoon," said Kenny Dinkin, creative director for The Learning Company. "The story and characters are great, but the interactivity is so incredibly rich, kids will be hooked, using their thinking caps to puzzle their way through awesome and hilarious adventures."

The new StarFlyers adventure CD-ROMs offer young players a unique combination of highly engaging puzzles and games that have been integrated into playful storylines with imaginative characters and settings. Robust, responsive gameplay creates a lively energetic mood that challenges kids to think, play and create. Real world characters that change into imaginative superheroes with special powers add to the entertainment. Dozens of paths, through multiple intergalactic environments, encourage open-ended exploration. Kids will find the games an irresistible challenge as they leap, jump and wing their way through multiple levels of interactive gameplay.
