Spaminators
If you surf the web or use email you’re probably annoyed by all those pop-up ads and junk emails known as spam. Here are some simple solutions to help tame the spam monster.
Norton makes a software program called “Internet Security”. It’s $70, and you can think of it as a full bodied protection for your computer if you’re going on the Internet. It combats pop-up ads as well as spam email and it even offers you a personal firewall for when you browse the Internet. It makes it so people can’t really read what’s on your computer. For $70, Norton is a great way to keep protected on the Internet. www.norton.com
If you don’t want to spend any money though, if you’re using Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator browser, you can actually go into the settings in your browser and set it for maximum security. Out of the box, the default level for both these browsers is medium security, which is fine for most people. But if you find you’re getting a lot of pop-up ads or a lot of spam email you might want to change the setting to maximum which means your computer is not going to share as much information with websites as it would before.
Finally there’s a program called Pop-Up Eliminator. Pop-Up Eliminator is $30 and it focuses on those pop-up ads you see so often. When you install this, it looks for the ads and kills them right at the source so all you see is the website you want to browse. For $30, Pop-Up Eliminator is a great solution if you’re as annoyed as we are by the pop-up culture. www.surfsecret.com
