Shavlik Announces Immediate Availability of Microsoft Windows 2000 Service Pack

Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Shavlik Technologies, LLC ( http://www.shavlik.com ), a leading provider of vulnerability assessment and remediation tools for the Microsoft platform, today announced that its flagship patch management product, HFNetChkPro, notifies customers that Microsoft's Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 (SP3) is now available, and enables customers to deploy the service pack to all specified machines from a central location. Shavlik customers who are using Shavlik's free patch management products, the command line version of HFNetChk and HFNetChkLT, respectively, will also receive notification that Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 is available by simply running the tools.

"HFNetChkPro is the industry's only real-time Microsoft patch management system," said Mark Shavlik, CEO of Shavlik Technologies. "This unique capability enabled our customers to receive notification that Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 was available soon after Microsoft placed it online. By running HFNetChkPro, system administrators will not only be able to see which machines require SP3, they will also be able to remotely deploy the upgrade across the enterprise."

The Windows 2000 Service Pack 3 is perhaps the most anticipated service pack in Microsoft history, and includes fixes for vulnerabilities uncovered during Microsoft's Trusworthy Computing security push. The service pack provides numerous reliability, compatibility and security enhancements to the Windows 2000 family of operating systems, and also includes changes to the operating system which were required by the consent decree with the Department of Justice.
