Safe Surfing Software for Kids
You know the child-safety caps on medicine bottles? Now there are
child-safety web browsers you can install on any computer, whether it's
a Windows PC or a Mac. Beyond the cute graphical interface and easier
on-screen navigation, these browsers pre-filter Web content before it
appears on your child's screen.
Some of these child-safety browsers are free, such as Yahoo's Yahooligans web site, and some, like Garfield Island, are software programs you install on your child's computer and then pay a monthly fee for the service. Either way, these browsers replace the standard Microsoft Internet Explorer web browser on your child's computer (you'll need to delete all the shortcuts to Internet Explorer so your kids can't bypass the child-safety browsers and use IE for uncensored browsing instead). AOL members can also activate a full set of parental controls which limit what sites and what keywords your child can access when on AOL.
