RoadWired has introduced a new carrying case for notebook computers. The new Digital Daypack is built around an internal suspension system that holds
any laptop, mounted to an 'expedition-grade' shoulder harness and waist
belt. Constructed of heavy duty, 1050 denier Ballistic Nylon with a water
repellant, jet black finish, the Digital Daypack is designed to perform
like a serious outdoor pack, while looking understated enough to use as a
business case. The Digital Daypack offers 12 compartments and pockets,
including a main compartment large enough for an LCD projector, books, files
or clothes. Attached inside the back of the main compartment is the laptop
suspension system, which comprises a padded sleeve with vertical and
horizontal adjusters to provide a snug fit to any size notebook computer.
The sleeve is designed to 'float' the computer above the bottom of the
pack, to reduce shock when setting down, and the adjacent floor and walls
are amply padded for additional protection. The entire system is supported
by an internal frame sheet, which in turn is attached directly to the
carrying harness. The result, according to RoadWired, is ideal weight
distribution, balance, comfort and protection for the laptop.
Other spaces include a large accessory compartment with two zippered
storage pockets, elasticized organizer for disks and pens, business card
window pocket, and key clip. There is also a separate exterior pocket for
a portable CD player or other small items. An angled 'holster' near the
hip provides fast access to a mobile phone while wearing the pack, and
features a separate weather flap and security closure.
The Digital Daypack also has a thickly padded, textured rubber
exterior panel on the bottom, to provide protection from abrasion, soil and
moisture, while protecting floors and desktops from scratches. All body
contact points, including the back panel, shoulder straps and belt, are
covered with padded mesh, which ventilates and wicks away perspiration.
The RoadWired Digital Daypack is approximately 18 x 12 x 8" and weighs just
55 ounces. $169.95.
