Pioneer Unveils Newest Home Networking Gateway Device

Dec. 4 /PRNewswire/ -- Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc., a leader in cable television digital set-top boxes, today unveiled the BTM-850W Wireless Gateway Modem.

The BTM-850W combines a DOCSIS 1.1 (Pending Certification Wave 24) compliant modem, router-gateway with a four port Ethernet switch and wireless base station (802.11b compliant) in one device. This advanced device is also CableHome 1.0 hardware ready and supports Home PNA 2.0. Visitors at this year's Western Show convention can view this latest home-networking technology in booth #3906 of the Anaheim Convention Center.

"Our objective in producing this broadband gateway device is to create a stand-alone device that can seamlessly integrate three working units into a single cost-effective design," said Paul Dempsey, president for the Business Solutions Division of Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. "Ultimately this DOCSIS certified device manages the data and home networking environment, while maximizing the cable operator's ROI."

The advances in wireless home networking have fueled the demand to provide cable operators with innovative product solutions that will enable their customers to take advantage of and create their own networked world. Pioneer is meeting this demand by producing a single gateway device that offers support of wired and wireless connectivity to link multiple devices and enable multiple services within the home.

"With Pioneer's single device replacing three traditional retail products, MSOs may offer a very substantial savings to their consumers if the device is sold, or the operator gains a substantial increase in their monthly broadband revenue if the product is leased as a step-up, home networking device," said Dempsey.

The gateway device maintains data privacy with 40/128 bit WEP encryption and triple DES. This is an ideal platform to bridge devices on the home network, including PCs, printers, set-top boxes and cameras, to the external networks and their services, such as streaming video, gaming, shopping, and other broadband applications.
