Personal Video Recording Goes Mainstream on Fall Line of Sony Desktops

Sept. 9 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- TV viewing is just a click away on the fall line of VAIO RS series desktop PCs.

The VAIO PCV-RS430G desktop model, available this month, allows you to not only watch and record your favorite TV programs, but also to convert old family movies stored on analog tape directly to a digital format. With integrated analog inputs, Giga Pocket functionality, an onboard dual- format DVD+/-RW drive and Click to DVD software, you can use the PC to preserve memorable moments and store them on durable DVD media.

The addition of the Giga Pocket application to the RS series also expands the possibilities for home entertainment networking. With a RoomLink Network Media Receiver (sold separately), the RS430G desktop can be used as an entertainment server, streaming TV programming, personal video, pictures and music directly from the PC to a home theater system.

"Our PCs have always been about integrating innovative multimedia software with top-notch hardware to create a satisfying entertainment experience," said Hideyuki Furumi, general manager of VAIO marketing for Sony Electronics. "We will continue to add entertainment value across the entire line of our PCs, not just the high end."

No-Worry DVD Creation
All three models in the RS series -- RS410, RS420 and RS430G -- feature easy DVD burning with dual-format DVD drives and Sony's exclusive DVD authoring software, Click to DVD. With the click of a mouse, the RS desktops can transfer video footage directly from a digital camcorder to four of the most popular forms of DVD media (-R, -RW, +R, +RW).

Standard on all RS series PCs is the VAIO software suite, including PictureGear Studio, SonicStage and DVgate Plus applications for managing and editing digital photos, music and video files. Each PC has multiple USB 2.0 ports and two i.LINK (IEEE 1394) ports to connect compatible multimedia devices.

Starting at about $850, the RS series also includes the latest Intel Pentium 4 processors, roomy hard drives and ample RAM to tackle multimedia tasks. They are available at retail and online at www.sonystyle.com .
