Office Depot to Distribute Voiceglo Internet Phone Service Products
October 11, 2004 – Voiceglo, a global, full-service Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) communications company, and Office Depot, one of the world’s leading resellers of office supplies, have entered into an agreement to jointly offer Voiceglo’s GloPhone Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) service and Office Depot’s USB VoIP-enabled phones in more than 900 Office Depot stores nationwide and online at www.officedepot.com. Beginning in November 2004, the company’s bundled VoIP products will be exclusively distributed by Office Depot.
Office Depot’s national roll-out of pre-packaged USB phones with GloPhone service is helping to redefine the communications industry. The USB phone/GloPhone service package is as simple as a “plug and play” communications tool; a simple download enables users to talk worldwide with huge cost savings – and includes free peer-to-peer calling. GloPhone, a Web- and PC-based phone service, enables consumers to make calls to and receive calls from any phone, anywhere in the world using either a broadband or dial-up Internet connection – a feature that is not currently offered by any other VoIP or traditional phone provider in the world. Both companies anticipate marketing the product to:
- Small business owners trying to contain their telecommunications costs, and who need feature-rich phone calling capabilities
- People who travel or live abroad, especially individuals in the military who need to stay connected to family and friends. GloPhone offers a cost-effective, barrier-free communications solution that can be accessed anywhere in the world, anytime
- Families that want to add a second phone line in the house for their children so that the primary line is not tied up
“We are pleased to partner with Office Depot, a leading global retailer, and are thrilled they recognize VoIP as an emerging market and want to be a part of it via our new partnership,” said Edward Cespedes, president, Voiceglo. “With Office Depot and Voiceglo’s global presence, we are confident that together the companies will help consumers maintain vital and cost-effective telecommunications connections by using our GloPhone product.”
“The relationship with Voiceglo is an exciting new business opportunity, and allows us to offer customers a new and affordable means of communication,” said Mark Amos, merchant for communications at Office Depot. “It is a great business solution for small business owners and consumers that give them the cost controls they need to be competitive while giving them many unique features they do not have today.”
Additionally, while most phone companies take days or weeks to assign consumers a phone number and installation date, GloPhone, in cooperation with Office Depot, will set up its users with a U.S. telephone number in the area code of their choice in less than three minutes, allowing them to communicate with friends and family across the globe almost immediately, for rates 40 to 80 percent less than traditional phone companies.
Consumers who sign up for GloPhone service through Office Depot will have five calling plans to choose from, ranging from free to $19.95/month for 1000 bundled local and long-distance minutes for U.S. and Canadian calls. Along with the standard features in all GloPhone packages – including caller ID, call waiting, call forwarding, missed call notification, voice mail to email and conference calling – there are 25 exclusive features as well as competitive local, long-distance and international calling plans that can be customized to meet the needs of each individual’s calling patterns.
