NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics Display to Make a Splash With 16 New Displays
"With the vast range of exhibits and captivating marine life in the aquarium to gaze at, keeping the attention of our visitors can be a challenge," said Rob London, technical coordinator for Monterey Bay Aquarium. "The NEC LCD displays not only help us do that through large, sharp images and crisp text, but the modern cabinet design really compliments the aesthetics of our facility. Our decision to work with NEC-Mitsubishi was based on the company's reputation for excellence and the products' ability to address several obstacles we encountered when testing other large display technology, such as glare, image burn-in and quality expectancy."
NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics Display's large information displays have become an attractive option for applications that were previously limited to plasma and CRT displays. The NEC LCD displays deliver rich, vibrant images with high resolutions of 1280 x 768 pixels (wide-XGA), typical brightness of 450 cd/m2 and contrast ratios of 600:1 for the NEC LCD4000 and 350:1 for the NEC LCD3000. Equipped with Rapid Response, the displays operate at a time of 23 ms for the NEC LCD4000 and 25 ms for the NEC LCD3000, delivering full motion video without 'ghosting' or 'image trailing.' They rival other display technologies in low power consumption, substantial space savings, long lifecycles and superior image performance.
"We were dealing with a lot of ambient light and long run time so we wanted to ensure LCD technology could accurately reproduce aquarium footage and graphics in the admissions area, while maintaining brightness and visibility," said Cindy Podgurski of VMI, Inc., the selling dealer in Sunnyvale, California. "We brought in NEC-Mitsubishi to demonstrate the product, along with some graphics from Nvidia. Impressed by the quality of the graphics and video and NEC-Mitsubishi's excellent track record of providing unparalleled customer service and support, we felt the NEC-Mitsubishi's LCD displays were the optimum choice for the Aquarium."
NEC XtraView wide-angle viewing technology enables the NEC LCD information displays to deliver an ultra-wide horizontal and vertical viewing angle of 170-degrees, 85-degrees from all sides of the monitor. For maximum compatibility in a wide range of IT environments, the NEC LCD displays also feature a variety of input connections including a DVI-D connector for digital video signal adapters, traditional 15-pin mini D-sub connector, BNC VGA, composite video, component video, S-Video and NTSC connectors. Ease of installation and mounting on walls and ceilings is made possible with the uniformly thin frame and light weight of 57.3 lbs. for the NEC LCD4000 and 32.6 lbs. for the NEC LCD3000.
"NEC-Mitsubishi is dedicated to bringing the benefits of LCD technology to large information display applications and we continue to spearhead larger and larger developments," Todd Fender, senior product manager for NEC-Mitsubishi Electronics Display. "NEC-Mitsubishi's expertise in delivering outstanding LCD image quality, superior performance and streamlined design on the desktop has enabled us to provide innovative and flexible solutions to the growing the information display market."
The NEC LCD information displays use an RS-232 connector or advanced remote diagnostics and control capabilities to enable users to easily access and modify display settings, which can be accomplished directly off of the VGA connector through use of the Display Data Channel/Command Interface (DDC/CI). This allows control commands to be sent directly to the monitor through a standard PC system or remotely over an existing network (LAN) by a system administrator. The LCD information displays also include CableComp technology, which allow IT administrators to utilize long cables of up to 326 feet/100 meters to service, upgrade and repair the units from a central control room. They can also be easily adjusted with a touch of the controls on the front of the display, which activates an expanded display mode through the OSM (On Screen Manager).
