Multi-Tech Adds Voice to Web Commerce

September 19, 2005 – Multi-Tech® Systems, Inc., a leading data communications and telecommunications technology company based in suburban Minneapolis, is announcing its "click-to-talk" TalkAnytime® Media Server designed to add real-time voice interaction over the Internet between web site visitors and company representatives. Connecting between a company's PBX and IP network, the new media server is a complete hardware and software product in four, eight, 24, and 30-channel models. Each channel allows a web visitor to contact web host company personnel using the Internet via a VoIP call into the PBX. The calls can then be used for assistance in tasks such as eCommerce, soliciting online support or inquiring about products. The TalkAnytime server models TA410 (four channel), TA810 (eight channel), TA2410 (24 channel), and TA3010 (30 channel) are shipping immediately, and are priced at MSRPs of US$1,699, US$2,699, US$3,699, and US$4,699 respectively.

"By designing our new TalkAnytime Media Server as a complete hardware and software product in scalable solutions, we have made it easier to install and available to a more diverse set of companies," states Chip Harleman, Vice President of Sales and Marketing for Multi-Tech Systems, Inc. "As we know, companies can have the greatest web site and most complete set of products, but with one unanswered question, an online purchase transaction can become part of the over 50 percent statistics for abandoned shopping carts. Answering those questions as easily as clicking a TalkAnytime button can translate into more sales and repeat business."

What makes the Multi-Tech TalkAnytime Media Server different is that it is a complete solution including the Voice over IP (VoIP) gateway along with the client call software. When a TalkAnytime button is pushed, client software is downloaded to the visitor's PC running Windows® and IE; whereupon, an Internet call is automatically initiated to the media server connected to the customer's PBX. The media server then completes the call to the appropriate personnel. The PC client consists of a media driver, codec driver, TalkAnytime call setup protocol and client configuration interface. The media server is built upon Multi-Tech Systems' proven VoIP gateway technology. It includes a complete set of PBX interfaces, a 10/100 Ethernet interface for connection to an IP network, and a full complement of advanced features such as a high-resolution adaptive jitter buffer combined with error concealment. Installation of the TalkAnytime Media Server is as simple as connecting it to appropriate PBX interface cards and IP network, then running the web-based administration program.
