McAfee.com Now Offers Young Internet Users Tool to Become Cyber Savvy
New Product to Provide Award-Winning Social Learning Technology for Parents,
Teens and Schools
June 5 /PRNewswire/ -- McAfee.com (Nasdaq: MCAF), a
leading security application service provider (ASP) today announced the
availability of McAfee.com Kids CyberSavvy CD-ROM. Expanding on the company's
initiative to protect children online, CyberSavvy is designed to teach young
Web users appropriate Internet skills to educate them about Internet dangers
(e.g. online bullies, stalkers, etc.) and how to deal with them.
The CyberSavvy program integrates real-life interviews and tales from teens, who have experienced at least one of the many online dangers, with role-playing vignettes. Animated "guides" ask questions to gauge users' knowledge and understanding of safe online communication and behavior. Topics addressed by CyberSavvy range from the proper ways to express yourself online to handling personal information over the Internet.
"As we migrate to a digital society, we must teach our children to apply real-world common sense to the digital world," said Srivats Sampath, president and CEO, McAfee.com. "By offering McAfee.com Kids CyberSavvy to parents and schools, we are doing our part to make the Internet a safer place for our children to visit and use it as a valuable resource."
McAfee.com Kids CyberSavvy is the next offering from the company's "Guard Your Net" initiative. Launched in March, the company introduced McAfee.com Kids, a comprehensive Web resource to educate parents, teachers and kids about Internet safety. A primary component of this initiative is kids.mcafee.com, launched in collaboration with noted Harvard University author and child psychologist Lawrence Kutner, PhD., known as "Dr. Dad," Colin Hatcher, President and CEO of SafetyEd.org, RippleEffects and the San Jose Sharks, to focus on the protection of children through safe practices, parent/teacher involvement and technology. The site has become a substantial resource for information regarding Internet safety and includes classroom lesson plans that have been distributed to thousands of middle schools nationwide. McAfee.com hopes to raise public awareness of Internet dangers that have increased dramatically over the past several years.
"The McAfee.com Kids CyberSavvy product offers a safe and private environment for preteens and teens to learn about online dangers at their own pace," said Dr. Kutner. "Used together, CyberSavvy along with the McAfee.com Kids Web site and Guard Your Net classroom program are a powerful set of tools designed to help children learn new and appropriate behavior for exploring and growing online."
McAfee.com Kids CyberSavvy operates on both Windows and Macintosh computers and is available for order at http://kids.mcafee.com . The CD-ROM is priced at $39.95 with discounts for educators and multiple copies. For more information or to purchase McAfee.com Kids CyberSavvy, please visit www.mcafee.com
