Losing the Ball and Cord Just Got Easier

Logitech's New Cordless Optical Mouse Brings Freedom to More DesktopsSept. 6 /PRNewswire/ -- Logitech (Nasdaq: LOGIY; Switzerland: LOGN, LOGZ), the leading provider of cordless peripherals for the PC, today announced a new ambidextrous Cordless Optical Mouse. The new mouse follows on the heels of the company's popular award winning Cordless MouseMan(R) Optical, which made its debut on March 21st at CeBIT 2001 in Hannover, Germany. In the U.S., Cordless Optical Mouse will be available on store shelves and online during the month of September at a retail price of $49.95 USD. Information regarding availability in Europe will be provided at a later date.

"After the success of Logitech's first cordless optical mouse, we are pleased to expand the available options in this new category with an ambidextrous design," said Chris Bull, director of product marketing for pointing devices at Logitech. "With no ball to clean and no cord to tangle, the Cordless Optical Mouse proves, once again, that Logitech is committed to delivering innovative products that meet genuine consumer needs."

This latest addition to Logitech's mouse family features a three-button design that is comfortable for both right and left-handed users, with a scroll wheel that functions as the third button. All of the buttons are completely programmable. In addition, with iTouch(TM) WebWheel(TM) feature, included with all Logitech mice, users can instantly access the Web at the touch of a button, without closing open applications.

The new mouse is equipped with the same optical sensor as the company's premium cordless optical mouse, Logitech's Cordless MouseMan Optical, which provides 800 dots-per-inch resolution for twice the accuracy of previous sensors, as well as enhanced power saving features. It is painted in an attractive silver metallic finish with a translucent blue cover.

Logitech's patented 27 MHz Palomar(TM) digital radio technology, used in all of the company's current line of cordless products, requires no line of sight and functions anywhere within a six-foot radius of the receiver. Thus, a cluttered desktop has no effect on performance. The Palomar receiver uses either a USB or a PS/2 interface and is compatible with Windows(R) 3.X, Windows 95 and 98, Windows 2000 and Windows Millennium Edition, as well as Macintosh 8.6 or later operating systems. All of Logitech products are also compatible with the Windows XP operating system. The XP compatible drivers, MouseWare v.9.41, will be available for download from the Logitech web site after September 17th. Logitech Cordless Optical Mouse has a five-year limited warranty.

About Optical: Cordless Optical Mouse uses a proprietary optical positioning sensor developed by Logitech and Agilent Technologies. The sensor tracks its relative location by "taking a picture" of the surface on which the mouse is operating. Each captured image is then sequentially analyzed by a powerful digital signal processor, which detects the speed and direction of even the slightest movement and translates it into smooth cursor movements on the computer screen. Optical mice offer more precise pointing and movement, and because they have no ball or cavity, no cleaning is necessary. When conventional mechanical mice pick up dust and dirt, the cursor will tend to jump around on the screen, or simply not track the motion of the mouse.
