June is Internet Safety Month
According to I-Safe, more than 48 million American children under the age of 17 use a computer everyday. Although kids are tech-savvy, one out of five is victimized by unsolicited sexual content and online predators. In order to protect children, parents, children and teachers must be educated about tools and techniques they can use to keep kids safe while online. Visit Symantec Security Check (www.symantec.com/securitycheck), a free service designed to help computer users understand and remedy their computer's exposure to online security intrusions and virus threats that affect every member of the family who uses the computer, including children. Parents can learn how to stop hackers and viruses, as well as how software tools like Norton Internet Security 2003 can help keep their children safe from Internet threats like inappropriate Web sites, cyber predators, spam e-mail and privacy invasions. All Home Depot stores will distribute yellow wristbands that represent the victims of Internet related crimes and serve as a reminder to be safe online. The wristbands are imprinted with the I-Safe slogan, "I am the key to building a safer USA." The wristbands will be available at no charge during the month of June at Home Depot stores nationwide.
