Iomega Offers Downloadable Software Titles that Run Entirely from a Zip Disk
Iomega Active Disk Technology Launches Software As Zip Disk Is Inserted And Leaves No Trace On The Host PC When The Disk Is Removed 5/11/2001 -- Iomega just announced the availability for download of shareware software titles enabled to run entirely from a Zip disk. Powered by Iomega’s Active Disk technology, the titles require no installation and leave no trace on the host computer when the disk is removed.
Available titles include educational programs, such as a typing tutorial, and entertainment software, such as video games and a fantasy sports program. Iomega expects to add several titles to the site throughout the year. The software can be downloaded free of charge from http://www.iomega.com/clubiomega/activedisk.html. “Users often want to take software to a friend’s home or another location, and Active Disk titles allow them to do so without installing and uninstalling the software,” said Germaine Ward, senior vice president, software solutions and e-business, Iomega Corporation. “Active Disk technology is also perfect for children because parents don’t end up with various software titles cluttering their computer’s hard drives. The child can insert the game and begin playing as easily as putting a videotape in a VCR.” By keeping Active Disk applications and user data together on the same Zip disk, individuals are able to maintain personal control of their content and avoid changes to the computer’s settings. Active Disk technology is included in version 3.0 and later versions of IomegaWare that ship with Zip drives. Users with older versions of IomegaWare will receive Active Disk drivers on first use of an ActiveDisk enabled software title. As with all shareware titles, customers may choose to upgrade various features and usage rights by paying nominal fees to the companies that produce the titles. http://www.iomega.com SOURCE Iomega [] If you like this site then please subscribe to our full feed RSS.
