Innovative New Online Child Safety Software Released
BOULDER, Colo., June 18 -- Webroot Software, Inc.
today introduced ChildSafe 3.0 (previously known as
WinGuardian). This affordable child monitoring utility features
"block-on-demand" functionality, allowing parents not only to watch where
their children are going and what they are doing on the Internet, but to
block access to specific web sites deemed inappropriate, offensive, or
dangerous. In addition, ChildSafe 3.0 features support for the latest
browsers that makes the software more user friendly. With ChildSafe 3.0
parents also are able to import 3rd party lists of sites that they wish to
block.
"Computer monitoring software, such as ChildSafe 3.0, provides parents
with the best way to know where kids are going and what they are doing on the
Internet," noted Webroot founder Steve Thomas. "The monitoring functions,
along with the new block-on-demand feature, makes ChildSafe 3.0 the most
powerful tool on the market today for promoting online safety for children."
ChildSafe 3.0 is designed to help parents keep their children safe from Internet predators by monitoring computer activity. The software can either run hidden or display a warning message to the user that they are being monitored. Items monitored include keystrokes (including chat room dialogue), programs used and sites visited on the Internet. It also captures screen shots of what users have been viewing.
For families using ChildSafe 3.0, parents are provided with the information they need to initiate discussions with their children about responsible use of the Internet. Functional demos of Webroot Software products are available via the company's web site at www.webroot.com and users are encouraged to try programs before purchasing.

Key Features of ChildSafe 3.0
- Block-On-Demand: ChildSafe 3.0 now contains an easy-to-use blocking function that allows parents to block out specific web sites. Parents can also import 3rd party lists to block web sites they do not want their children visiting.
- Screen Shot Capturing: A "snapshot" of what an Internet user is viewing is taken and stored as a graphic file. Screen shots can be taken at predetermined intervals.
- Ability to E-mail ChildSafe 3.0 Log Files: ChildSafe 3.0 logs files of Internet and computer activity (including screen captures). These files can be e-mailed to parents at predetermined intervals. This allows parents to supervise their children's Internet usage even while they are at work or away from home.
- "Acceptable Use" Policies Communicated Through ChildSafe 3.0: Another key ChildSafe 3.0 feature is its ability to display a warning message and acceptable use policy (AUP) when a computer is turned on, when a screen saver stops and when the Internet is accessed. Before being able to proceed, users must click the "agree" button, ensuring that users are aware of the policies regarding use of the computer.
