Fonix Introduces Fonix VoiceDirector for WindowsOct. 24 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Fonix Corporation (BULLETIN BOARD: FONX) , a leading provider of natural-user interface technology for wireless and mobile devices, Internet and telephony systems, and vehicle telematics, today announced it has begun shipping Fonix VoiceDirector for Windows, an exciting new productivity application that allows users to navigate their PC by voice command. Fonix VoiceDirector gives anyone with a preference for hands-free PC navigation a simple and reliable enhancement to the PC mouse. Designed to enhance the user's interaction with the PC, Fonix VoiceDirector launches tasks, applications, documents, music, video files, and more, all via short, spoken commands. Users can opt for Fonix VoiceDirector's default selection of control words, or enter their own lexicon of words and/or phrases for ease-of-use or to create a unique computer "personality." "Unlike other software products that offer automatic speech recognition, Fonix VoiceDirector requires no voice training," said Joel Patrick, Director of Marketing, for Fonix Corporation. "With Fonix proprietary Plug & Speak technology, just load the software and you're ready to go. Fonix VoiceDirector offers a full range of convenient features at a price that fits anyone's budget." Designed for use on Windows XP through 98 SE, Fonix VoiceDirector allows PC users to speak instead of click. It automatically checks the PC's desktop and menu bar upon loading, making all buttons and icons available for voice activation.
Customizable Voice Commands Aid Memory, Productivity Fonix VoiceDirector makes it easy to play any song or video in the PC's memory just by speaking the selection title. Checking the time, closing applications, saving files, launching games, and many more daily tasks can be navigated with ease via Fonix VoiceDirector, using simple voice commands. Also adding to the software's flexibility is the option to specify a preface word or phrase that legitimizes or "authorizes" the user's spoken command. Such a feature prevents commands from being carried out when a command word is spoken during normal conversation. The word "Web," for example, without being preceded by a specific word or phrase such as "Director," will not launch the Internet browser. Alternately, if the individual is working alone, he or she can turn off the preface feature and launch commands directly by simply saying the command without having to use the preface phrase.
