Compaq's Ultra Portable Notebook Computer

Compaq Presario 800If you're looking for a truly portable laptop that performs like a desktop computer check out Compaq's 3.5 pound Presario 800. Its got brains, brawn, beauty and most important, value. It's the first slim notebook I've tested that doesn't sacrifice functionality for its ultra portable form factor.
Its brains come from Intel's new specially designed 700 MHz processor with Speed Step technology. This processor delivers desktop multimedia capabilities on a laptop the size of a spiral notebook, while still managing to use less power and produce less heat. Boot times are fantastic on this notebook. The Presario 800 tames the Windows OS monster and boots up in seconds.

Compaq includes an external DVD drive and floppy, plus the company will be offering a Compaq branded wireless solution that should be a big hit with travelers. The solution, under non-disclosure until next week, will involve major airports across the country.

Aesthetically speaking, the 800 is super model thin (less than an inch thick). She's also dressed to the nines in a sleek silver ruggedized magnesium alloy shell.

What really sets the Presario 800 apart from the pack is its under $2,000 price point. A first in the ultra portable category, and hopefully the shape of things to come. www.compaq.com
