Vtech Introduces World’s First 5.8 GHz Cordless Phone
September 2002 – Vtech recently announced the introduction of its revolutionary new VTech 5831 5.8 GHz cordless telephone. Sure to be a hit with technology lovers, the VTech 5831 is the first cordless telephone to operate in the newly available, ultra-high 5.8 GHz frequency band. Until recently, this frequency had been reserved solely for commercial broadband wireless applications because of its ability to carry data transmissions at high speeds. The coupling of the powerful 5.8 GHz frequency band with the proven Digital Spread Spectrum (DSS) technology in VTech’s latest phone design has resulted in the 5831’s superior audio quality and performance.
Until recently, the 5.8 GHz frequency had been reserved solely for commercial broadband wireless applications because of its ability to carry data transmissions at high speeds. The coupling of this powerful frequency band with the proven Digital Spread Spectrum (DSS) technology in VTech’s latest phone design has resulted in the 5831’s superior audio quality and performance.
In addition to the 5831’s technological advances, the new VTech phone also has numerous useful and user-friendly features. The VTech 5831 includes a built-in speakerphone on both the handset and the base unit, making the base unit a fully functional stand-alone telephone. The base unit also features its own full-size keypad and LCD screen to display Caller ID and Call Waiting, essentially making the VTech 5831 cordless telephone a Two-Phones-In-One system. In addition, the system easily accommodates up to six additional handsets. The main base is the only unit that needs to be plugged into a phone jack; each of the handsets communicates through the base and requires only a power outlet to be stationed anywhere else in the house. That means extra handsets can easily be placed in the den, basement, or even the garage.
The 5.8 GHz VTech 5831 also features an innovative intercom feature that can be utilized to make conference calls and even transfer calls between the handsets and base. This hi-tech system was engineered to offer the consumer enhanced flexibility and usability, as is demonstrated by the 5831’s unique Sound Select feature. The Sound Select feature allows the user to “sculpt” the audible environment to suit his or her personal taste with four different sound field preset modes, eliminating the one-size-fits-all audio reference standards of the past.
After incorporating all the technological enhancements and features to the VTech 5831, the designers and engineers also made sure it was aesthetically pleasing. The cordless phone has a sleek high-tech look, and an attractive color scheme that easily complements any décor. In addition, the 5831 handset has been outfitted with a belt clip and universal 2.5-mm output jack that accepts external telephone headsets for a private, mobile, hand-free alternative to the built-in speakerphone. Not private enough? The VTech 5831 handset also has a silent/vibrating ringer mode for those times when extreme privacy is an absolute necessity.
The handset displays both an analog and a digital clock, as well as a built-in 50-name/number phone book directory plus a visual message-waiting indicator. To add to the already impressive list of significant features that make up the VTech 5831 is a dual-battery charger with power backup that allows you to make calls even during a power outage.
The VTech 5831 5.8 GHz cordless telephone is now available at top national chains, including Best Buy, Staples and Office Depot. The starter package, which includes one base unit and handset, carries a suggested retail price of $199, with the option to obtain additional handsets at a suggested retail price of $99 each, making it easier than ever to “Spread The Word.”
