Sony Introduces SuperLite Projectors

Sony VPL-CX5June 12 /PRNewswire/ -- Sony Electronics today unveiled the VPL-CS5 and VPL-CX5 SuperLite projectors, the company's most feature-packed and brightest micro-portable models yet.

These additions to Sony's projector line distinguish themselves by offering a mobile solution to appeal to the road warrior. In addition, their compact design and bright image quality make the new SuperLite models practical to be ceiling-mounted in a conference room, small boardroom or classroom environment.

Both projectors feature new automatic controls and a sleek modern chassis design in a package about the size of a hardback novel. The projectors also feature a wide array of computer and video inputs, remote control capabilities and pre-programmable options.

"Sony's new SuperLite projectors are designed for mobility because they are so compact and lightweight," said Robert Meakin, Sony Electronics' marketing manager for SuperLite projectors. "With their ease-of-use and feature-rich specifications, the projectors give an added lift to any presentation," Meakin said. "We expect our SuperLite solutions to be in large demand among road warriors, educators and government administrators."

Both projectors feature pre-programmable options that enable users to configure them to recall certain settings. For instance, the projectors will automatically adjust height and keystone configurations to pre-set levels immediately when powered on. The projectors also feature a new protective lens cover that automatically retracts.

In the value market segment, weighing in at 5.15 lbs., the VPL-CS5 projector has an estimated retail selling price of $2,199 and offers SVGA resolution and 1800 ANSI* lumens. Whether resting on a tabletop or mounted to a ceiling, this versatile projector is fast and simple to setup. It offers rear-screen capabilities, automatic setup, and an adjustable digital keystone. Designed to meet the rigorous performance demands of road shows and in-house presentations, the unit has whisper-quiet operation, a high aperture 0.7-inch TFT LCD panel, and a 165-watt UHP lamp. It can even be controlled with a wireless mouse.

Sony's new VPL-CX5 projector features 2000 ANSI lumens and XGA (1024 x 768) resolution. It accepts composite video, S-Video analog RGB/component, and SYNC/HD input signals. Just like the VPL-CS5 model, the VPL-CX5 projector can display high contrast images on a viewable area, measured diagonally, from 40 to 150 inches.

Additionally, the VPL-CX5 projector is USB compatible. With an estimated retail selling price of $3,399, it also includes an adjustable keystone and a Memory Stick media slot for PC-free presentations that are easy to prepare and convenient to make almost anywhere.

The VPL-CX5 model also includes Projector Station software for even easier transfer of files or conversions of PowerPoint presentations. With Projector Station software users can display their media without using a PC. Both projectors accept composite video, S-Video analog RGB/component, and SYNC/HD input signals. The VPL-CS5 and VPL-CX5 SuperLite projectors will be available later this month.

* ANSI lumens is a measuring method developed for the American National Standards Institute. Since there is no uniform method of reporting brightness, specifications will vary among manufacturers.
