Sony Introduces a Razor-Thin Notebook PC

May 11 /PRNewswire/ -- Warning: Sony's VAIO VGN-X505 notebook is so incredibly thin and lightweight; you may just forget you're carrying it. Available in June, the new PC is designed to meet the demands of the executive business traveler while setting a new standard for functional design.

The VAIO X505 is among the first notebooks ever to feature a carbon nickel casing, contributing to the computer's extra-slim form and keeping it in the featherweight class at a little under two pounds. With a 10.4-inch screen and a full-featured keyboard, the X505 squeezes the performance of a notebook twice the size into a package that is about half an inch thick.

"Significant technological advancements went into making a PC this small," said Mike Abary, general manager of VAIO PC marketing for Sony Electronics. "In addition to pioneering the use of new materials for the casing, we've also pushed the envelope on motherboard design shrinking it to the size of a MiniDisc. The result is a pint-sized powerhouse with the eye-catching design only Sony can provide."

Proving it is more than a pretty face; this model is fueled by an Intel Pentium M processor and features a 20GB hard drive. The lithium-ion battery delivers up to four hours of productivity on a single charge. Sony's exclusive suite of multimedia applications enhances the notebook's entertainment appeal, PictureGear Studio and SonicStage software allow for managing and sharing digital entertainment content.

The unit comes with the complete executive package. A form-fitting ballistic nylon carrying case and matching accessories case make a style statement. Standard accessories include a specially designed 802.11g wireless LAN card, display/LAN adapter and cleaning cloth. Available exclusively through Sony Style concept stores and online at www.sonystyle.com for about $3,000, the X505 notebook will also be bundled with a USB mouse with a Memory Stick media slot.
