Siemens Introduces First Voice Activated Expandable Cordless Phone Systems
New Gigaset Series With Handsets That Have it All and GigaVoice Technology
Offers Total Mobility and Ease of Use for Consumers
Aug. 2 /PRNewswire/ -- Siemens Information and
Communication Mobile, a leading provider of digital cordless telephony for
small/home office and residential users, today introduced the new Gigaset(TM)
4000 and 4200 product series, the first 2.4 GHz expandable cordless phone
systems in the U.S. with GigaVoice(TM) -- a complete suite of integrated voice
activated features. GigaVoice technology enables voice-activated dialing and
voice-announced Caller ID using the individual user's voice.
The Siemens' Gigaset 4000 and 4200 series of single-line, multi-user expandable cordless phone systems are available in a variety of stylish color choices and were designed for consumers seeking superior voice quality and security in a convenient, easy-to-use, versatile tool for managing home-based personal and business calls. All system functionality, including answering machine operation, is accessible from any Gigaset 4000 or 4200 cordless handset anywhere in the home. The phones extend the functionality of caller services offered by regional telephone companies and provide several new capabilities. Siemens' GigaVoice voice-operated controls (4200 series) allow users to place calls using simple commands spoken into any Gigaset 4200 handset in the home. For example, by speaking "Dad's Office," the system will recognize the voice and words as an instruction to place a call to the number listed in the directory for "Dad's Office." The voice-recognition technology found in the Gigaset 4200 series can correctly recognize voices from four different users and it supports three languages (English, Spanish and French). Siemens' GigaVoice voice-announced Caller ID (4200 series) allows users to hear who's calling before picking up the phone. For example, users will hear their own voice saying "Mom's Calling" as the phone rings, alerting them to who is calling. The system recognizes up to 20 names and numbers from the directory. This feature alleviates the requirement to have the handset within reach to see who is calling -- users can still enjoy the benefits of Caller ID regardless of where they are in the house. "The GigaVoice technology merges the power of the voice with the power of the phone to deliver an industry first for cordless phones," said Isaac Levy, vice president and general manager of Cordless Products for Siemens. "We believe the Siemens' Gigaset 4000 and 4200 series phones will revolutionize the way busy families use the phone to communicate and manage their important messages. These are handsets that have it all, providing total mobility to users." The Gigaset 4000 and 4200 series of 2.4 GHz digital cordless phones consist of the following models: Gigaset 4200 Series

When multiple Gigaset 4200 series handsets are used, the phones also feature an intercom, room monitor, call transfer and call conferencing. The same applies for the 4000 series phones, minus the room monitor. With 2.4 GHz Digital Frequency Hopping Spread Spectrum (FHSS) technology, the Siemens' Gigaset 4000 and 4200 series cordless phone systems have exceptional sound clarity and low interference. The units also feature a revolutionary buttonless base, a high quality handset display, 6-day standby battery, clock and alarm, appointment reminder, volume control, low-battery warning and a navigation key to help users move through the menus. The Gigaset 4000 and 4200 series phone systems will appear in major consumer electronics stores and Siemens' online store ( http://www.icm.siemens.com ) starting in September. Manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) for the Gigaset 4000 series will range from $99.99 to $179.99 and for the Gigaset 4200 series from $129.99 to $229.99.
