Sharp Launches Mobile Services for Zaurus Sl-5500 PDAAug. 22 /PRNewswire-FirstCall/ -- Sharp Electronics Corporation today announced the launch of its "consumer edition" wireless data service for the Sharp Zaurus SL-5500 PDA. This service will run on Verizon Wireless CDPD network. Called Sharp Mobile Services, it's an end-to-end wireless e-mail solution that includes modem ordering and fulfillment, network service, billing, customer service and support. Developed by Sharp in partnership with Aether Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ:AETH), a leading provider of wireless data products and services, the consumer solution is available beginning today at http://www.sharpmobile.com. Sharp Mobile Services allows consumers to send and receive e-mail from POP3 and IMAP4 e-mail accounts, view e-mail attachments, including Word, Excel and PowerPoint files, and browse the web wirelessly. The web browsing experience is faster and more efficient than on current data networks due to the wireless optimization and data compression benefits of Aether Fusion, a standards-based platform that allows for secure, reliable extension of critical information to virtually any wireless or mobile environment.
