Sharp and Aether Announce Mobile Services for New Zaurus PDA
Wireless Solution to Provide Enterprise Customers With E-mail, Custom
Applications and Integrated Wireless Data Package on Sharp Zaurus
Dec. 3 /PRNewswire/ -- Sharp Electronics Corp. today
announced that it is working with Aether Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: AETH), a
leading provider of wireless data products and services, to develop and
deliver a custom, corporate e-mail solution for Sharp's Zaurus SL-5500.
Aether Fusion(TM), Aether's core technology foundation, will serve as the platform of choice for Sharp Mobile Services, which will offer enterprise customers a comprehensive solution for secure, real-time, wireless access to e-mail, Internet browsing, document attachments, PIM functionalities, and other customized applications. In addition, an out-of-the-box version of Sharp Mobile Services for professional consumers will be offered. Both solutions will be available on the Sharp Zaurus SL-5500 in early 2002. Aether will develop a rapidly deployable, end-to-end wireless e-mail solution that will be offered to enterprises of any size. The resulting solution, to be developed on a Linux(TM)-based platform that also incorporates a powerful Personal Java(TM) Virtual Machine, will provide the flexibility and scalability required by enterprises. Through Sharp Mobile Services, Aether and Sharp will provide corporate users with an integrated wireless data package, including application server and support hosting, global product fulfillment, customer care, technical support, and 24-hour network operations support.
