Seiko Launches WP1500 Spellchecker and Thesaurus

July 18, 2002 – Seiko Instruments Austin, Inc. (SIAS), a worldwide leader in “Instruments of Intelligence,” today announced the launch of the WP1500 Spellchecker and Thesaurus. The WP1500, which is an update of the ED1240, builds upon its predecessor’s extensive feature set with a Wordfinder phonetic spell checker that includes over 110,000 American and British English words, 500,000 synonyms from Roget’s II: The New Thesaurus, a variety of games, and a World Time Clock.

Featuring a new eye-catching design, the gives users the ability to phonetically spell and find over 110,000 words in both American and British English. The product also contains ten games, including, Crossword Solver, Hangman, Crossword Quiz and Memory. With features such as a twelve-digit calculator with memory and percentage functions, a World Time Clock, and Roget’s Thesaurus with over 500,000 synonyms, the WP1500 is designed to benefit a wide range of users, from students to crossword enthusiasts and business people.

In addition, the WP1500 features a two-line/twenty-character dot matrix display with contrast controls and a currency/metric/clothing size converter. Whether taking on the challenge of a crossword puzzle, writing, traveling, or looking for entertainment, the WP1500 proves to be a helpful tool.

Seiko’s WP1500 Spellchecker and Thesaurus is a portable pocket sized device that measures 3” (L) x .56” (H) x 4.125” (W) and weighs 2.4 ounces. Additionally, the WP1500 has a demo mode to help users get familiar with the unit, a help function, auto shut off and a one-year warranty.

The unit will be available in September for an estimated street price of $19.99.
