Samsung Debuts Laser Printers that Produce Pro-Quality Documents

January 8, 2002 -- Samsung, a leading manufacturer in the laser printer market, introduces the powerful ML-1400 series of fully-equipped, 15 page-per-minute laser printers for consumers and small workgroups. Ideal for the home or small office, the ML-1440 is capable of producing presentation-quality documents at a higher volume and faster rate than generated by traditional entry-level laser printers. The network-capable ML-1450 meets the needs of small workgroups with the high-volume paper handling capacity and high resolution necessary to generate a large number of professional-quality documents quickly. The ML-1450 ($299) starts shipping at the end of January and the ML-1440 ($249) will be available at the end of March. “The ML-1400 series is designed to surpass the expectations of home and small business users for similarly-priced models,” said Chanel O’Connor, Printer Product Manager for Samsung’s Digital Information Technology Division (DITD). “Both the ML-1440 and ML-1450 offer a host of pro-quality features and performance at a more affordable cost.”

Solid and compact, the ML-1440 and ML-1450 feature a 15 page-per-minute output rate and powerful 66MHz processor. Both printers have an ample monthly duty cycle of 12,000 pages per month. The ML-1440 and ML-1450 include built-in parallel port and USB interfaces and support a wide range of Operating Systems including Windows 95/98/2000/ME/NT4.0/XP, Linux, and Macintosh OS 8.6 and above.

Samsung’s unique toner-save technology is incorporated in the ML-1440 and ML-1450. The one-touch toner-save button reduces toner consumption by up to 40%, saving consumers and businesses money through fewer replacement cartridges. Ideal for generating draft documents, the toner save actually extends the life of the printers’ 6,000-page toner cartridge to 8,400 pages when activated.

Both printers feature Samsung’s convenient N-up printing mode, which enables the user to display up to 16 pages of text on a single sheet. N-up printing is particularly useful for previewing the layout of lengthy documents and presentations without wasting vast amounts of paper and toner.

The ML-1440 and ML-1450 printers easily accept a wide variety of paper stocks and sizes with an extra sheet feeder for envelopes, labels, card stock or transparencies. At the touch of a button, user-friendly controls allow you to reprint the last printed page and to cancel a print job.

ML-1440 Offers Professional Quality Printing in the Home Office
With 8MB of standard memory, the ML-1440 utilizes SPL (Samsung Printer Language) emulation to print graphics at a faster rate than other similarly priced models. The ML-1440 produces sharp text and images at 600 x 600dpi (dots-per-inch) resolution.

Equipped with a 270-sheet universal cassette tray, the ML-1440 also features a multi-purpose tray, which is capable of handling a variety of paper stocks and sizes. An optional 550-sheet second cassette feeder is available for increased paper handling capacity.

ML-1450 Provides a Networkable Solution to Small Business Users
The ML-1450 is designed to make network printing easy with an optional Ethernet 10/100 Base Tx network adapter. The ML-1450 uses PCL6 (Printer Command Language) emulation to print detailed graphics in a fraction of the time of traditional laser printers. With 1200dpi class resolution, the ML-1450 generates precise text and graphics.

The ML-1450 saves valuable time with its adjustable 550-sheet paper cassette by allowing users to add a full ream of paper without having to wait until the paper runs out. A 100-sheet multi-purpose tray is included to handle a variety of paper sizes and a 550-sheet second cassette is also available.

The ML-1440 and ML-1450 are backed by Samsung's one-year parts and labor warranty. For more information about Samsung’s laser printers, please contact Samsung toll-free at 1-800/SAMSUNG or visit the company’s Web site at www.samsungprinter.com.
