Samsung Brings AOL Instant Messenger to the SGH-r225M

June 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Samsung and America Online today announced plans to integrate the AOL Instant Messenger (AIM) service into Samsung's leading-edge wireless phone, SGH-r225M. As a built-in feature of the r225M, consumers will have easy access to the popular AIM service.

"Samsung is proud to align its innovative brand and products with such a pioneering and consumer-centric company like AOL," said Peter Skarzynski, senior vice president for STA's wireless terminals division. "Through the r225M's built-in AIM feature, we're able to bring consumers an exciting avenue to communicate with friends and family at any time, in any place."

"Instant messaging, one of the most popular ways that people communicate today, is taking hold as a valuable application for wireless phones," said Lex Felker, senior vice president and chief technology officer of AOL Anywhere for America Online. "We're pleased that Samsung will be integrating the AIM service into their new r225M wireless handset and providing an exciting way for people to stay connected."

The AIM service allows consumers to use their wireless phone to send and receive instant text messages with others in real-time, making it possible to reach people wherever they are -- on their wireless phone, at home or work on their computer, or using a wireless device -- with the added benefit of "chatting without talking" when discretion during a personal conversation is needed. One of the key features of the AIM service is the Buddy List feature which allows users to immediately see when family, friends and other contacts are online and available to exchange instant messages.

The r225M is a stylish new addition to Samsung's successful line of GSM wireless handsets that enable users to personalize their phones through a host of innovations. With color LED options for caller ID, the r225M allows consumers to bring character to incoming calls by assigning any one of five standard colors (green, orange, red, violet and blue) to up to five phone book entries. Consumers can further personalize their phones by downloading the latest ring tones and images.

The AIM service, along with the r225M's three games, Casino, Mole and Hexa, make this stylish wireless phone the ideal product for consumers who want both an entertainment and communications device. The r225M will be available to consumers nationwide in June.
