Philips and WIDCOMM Introduce Bluetooth Solution For Windows CE

Philips First to Market with CompactFlash Card Module for Windows CE DevicesJune 27 /PRNewswire/ -- Philips Components (NYSE: PHG), a division of Royal Philips Electronics of the Netherlands, and WIDCOMM, Inc., a leader in wireless communications and Bluetooth networking, today announced that they have jointly developed the first commercially available Bluetooth CompactFlash card module for the Microsoft(R) Windows(R) CE operating system platform. This CompactFlash card module allows PC OEMs and electronics manufacturers to benefit from a total Bluetooth plug-and-play solution and add Bluetooth connectivity to their PDAs, handhelds and other devices running on Microsoft's handheld OS.

"Building on our partner relationships with the world's leading silicon, software and application companies, we're expanding our offering of complete Bluetooth solutions to target multiple market segments," said Engelbert van Pelt, General Manager of Programs for Philips' connectivity initiative. "This Windows CE Bluetooth solution further strengthens our position as the premier one-stop shopping hub for OEMs seeking complete wireless connectivity solutions. The easy customization of the module shows how Philips Components continues to provide digital solutions, which reduce our customer's time to market and enhance the end-user experience."

"The Philips Bluetooth product platform now enables OEMs to offer end-users a complete and interoperable platform for PDAs and PCs, and for embedded Bluetooth products like mobile phones," commented Andreas Malzach, WIDCOMM VP Software Business. "This exciting Philips product continues to build momentum of Bluetooth offerings now available in the market."

These modules are easily customized and include complete reference designs: hardware, software and user interfaces. These complete solutions, designed to run on notebooks and personal digital assistants (PDAs), will enable small, low-power mobile devices to participate in Bluetooth personal area networks (PAN).
