Panasonic Ships Affordable Laser Fax/MFP

Feb. 11, 2002-- Panasonic announced that it has begun shipping the Panafax UF-790 plain-paper laser fax to authorized Panasonic dealers. With an MSRP of $1,795, the UF-790 is a powerful fax device that unleashes even greater performance features when it is connected to a PC. Loaded with Panasonic's provided Document Manager System software, the UF-790 can fax, print, scan-to-file or scan-to-e-mail. Here's how it works. A document fed into the UF-790 is scanned at a quick 2.8 seconds per page. With Panasonic's Quick Memory Transmission, as soon as the first page of the document is scanned, the destination number is immediately dialed. The scanned data is transmitted to the destination via the standard 33.6 kbps Super G3 modem in as fast as three second per page. In addition, the UF-790's standard high-capacity flash memory stores up to 120 pages (maximum 760 pages with optional memory). This, coupled with the 50-sheet automatic document feeder, enables a user to transmit several high-volume jobs without having to wait around.

Need a printer? No problem. The Panafax UF-790 has a built-in parallel interface. Just install the standard, Windows-compatible printer driver on your PC and the UF-790 becomes a high-quality, 600 x 600-dpi laser printer that prints approximately 6.5 pages per minute. The ever-efficient, multitasking UF-790 enables a fax to be transmitted from memory at the same time a PC document is printing.

The versatile UF-790 enables users to easily and efficiently manage documents. From their PC, users can scan, edit, store and send image data. With the UF-790's TWAIN-compatible, 400-dpi-image scanner capability, paper documents can be converted into PC data in one easy, scan-to-file operation. Scanning with 64-level halftone produces sharp, clear reproduction of both text and images.

Documents can be scanned from the Panafax UF-790 directly to a PC desktop using the standard Panasonic Document Management System software. And with a simple drag-and-drop operation, these documents can be attached directly to e-mail messages. Also, faxes can be transmitted directly from a PC.

Servicing the Panafax UF-790 is simple and convenient with the Check & Call feature, which automatically reports low toner status and certain mechanical problems to a service center. If a more complicated problem arises, help is just a toll-free call away to Panasonic technicians who use Remote Diagnostic Software (RDS) to troubleshoot over the phone line. The software also allows for remote retrieval and updating of machine settings, managing autodialer entries and viewing the meter count. This Remote Diagnostic Software (RDS) is now also available for dealers to purchase. Dealers have the ability to troubleshoot and correct certain problems without actually visiting the end user. This is an important feature, because many communication problems can be corrected by simply adjusting parameter settings.

As an Energy Star Partner, the Panafax UF-790 meets Energy Star efficiency guidelines. Panasonic's Energy Saver technology reduces the UF-790's power consumption to a mere 1.2 Wh in sleep mode. In fact, the UF-790's power consumption is lower than that of many other MFPs. Additional features include:
  • 9000-page, all-in-one consumable toner cartridge
  • 132-station autodialer
  • QWERTY keypad
  • 250-sheet recording paper capacity (expandable to 500 sheets)
