Panasonic Announces New Compact Fax Machine

(October, 2001) --New from Panasonic is the KX-FPG175 fax machine, the first of its kind available to the U.S. market that features a built-in 2.4 GHz GigaRange® cordless telephone. This all-in-one, innovative plain paper fax machine also includes a digital answering system, an enhanced copier function and a helpful navigator key with two line LCD, providing users with in-demand features in one easy-to-store model. "Compact fax machines have come a long way," says Frank Lasorsa, assistant general manager, Facsimile Department, Panasonic's Communications/Home Office Products Division. "And this new model from Panasonic is a prime example. Not only does it have high-end faxing features and a small footprint, but it is also the first to contain a 2.4 GHz cordless telephone that achieves long range with improved clarity."

For accomplishing everyday office tasks, the KX-FPG175 incorporates a plain paper fax machine with a ten-sheet document feed and 50-sheet paper tray. Incoming messages are printed clearly with 64 shades of halftone resolution and a Super Fine resolution function, which is ideal for printing extremely detailed faxes. A 14.4 Kbps modem enables transmissions of approximately 9 seconds per page,* while a sequential broadcasting feature allows the document to be sent sequentially to 20 recipients. Should the fax machine run out of paper, the document will be saved in the unit's 28-page built-in document memory**.

Up to 50 copies can be made from one original while images can be enlarged up to 200% or reduced down to 72% of the original. To help save time, the KX-FPG175 can collate multiple sheet documents, so that copied pages stay in the original order.

Other convenience features include: Voice and Fax Pager Call to automatically send Caller ID Data+ to the user's pager when a fax or voice message is received; Automatic Fax/Phone Switching, which distinguishes between fax and voice calls; and Extension Line Transfer to transfer an incoming fax to your fax unit.

"And, with the built-in GigaRange 2.4 GHz cordless telephone, users can experience long-range, ultra-clear telephone conversations as they move throughout their home or office and even into the backyard, thanks to the telephone's advanced technology," says Lasorsa.

The KX-FPG175's built-in, fully-functional 2.4 GHz GigaRange cordless telephone offers eight times the range of our 900MHz analog models and up to two times that of our 900MHz GigaRange Digital Spread Spectrum (SST) telephones***. Panasonic's "GigaRange" SST technology, "spreads" their signals over many frequencies per second. Digital coding of the phones' transmissions is included for enhanced security.

The cordless telephone uses two antennas on the base and is known as antenna diversity. This design helps eliminate dead spots or multipath fading problems during transmission and reception. As the result, conversations are designed to be smooth on both ends of the line.

Highlighted by a rugged design, the included Extreme SST telephone has rubberized trim on the handset cabinet to guard against daily wear and tear. This trim and other design features give the cordless model increased impact resistance, enabling it to withstand possible damage resulting from accidentally dropping the handset.+ The cordless telephone is also splash-resistant++, making it safe to use around the pool, while washing a car or doing the dishes.

Hands-free or multiple-party conversations are made simple with the built-in Digital Duplex Speakerphone. This advanced speakerphone technology uses high-speed Digital Voice Processors for crisp, clear, hands-free conversation and eliminates the annoying "clipping" typified by traditional speakerphones. Also included is a 50-station speed dial for quick access to your most frequently dialed numbers and an electronic phone directory, which can be easily accessed via the convenient navigator key. The telephone is also Caller ID-ready+++, providing a visual confirmation of the caller's name and phone number that appears on the handset's two-line LCD.

For those times when you're unable to take the call, the KX-FPG175's digital answering machine provides 18 minutes of memory - divided between three separate mailboxes- to conveniently record the caller's message for you. Other features include Skip, Repeat, Slow and Quick functions, memo message for recorded reminders and two-way recording for recording both sides of the conversation.

The KX-FPG175 fax machine is currently available with a manufacturer's suggested retail price of $299.95.

Panasonic offers a six-month limited warranty, parts and labor, on its fax machines. In the event the unit requires service under the limited warranty during that time, Panasonic will send a replacement overnight under its Fax Advantage program++++.
