Palm Launches Regional Training Workshops for Individuals and Schools
Nov. 8 /PRNewswire/ -- Palm, Inc. (Nasdaq: PALM) today announced
the availability of regional workshops aimed at providing professional
development for individual educators and schools on how to effectively
integrate Palm(TM) handheld computers into teaching and learning. The
announcement was made to school district technology leaders and other school
leaders at the Technology + Learning Conference that runs through Saturday at
The Georgia World Congress Center. The conference is sponsored by the National
School Board Association.
Regional workshop providers are located in California, Indiana, Texas and
Massachusetts and provide a high-quality learning experience specially
designed to meet the needs of administrators and teachers using Palm handhelds
in the classroom.
"Professional development has been identified by the Secretary of Education and all major educational associations as the single most important component of quality teaching and learning," said Mike Lorion, vice president of Education for Palm, Inc. "We believe that the Palm education workshop providers are an excellent resource for educators to help meet the needs they have expressed for regionally available and onsite workshops."
The workshop providers have expertise in the Palm OS(R) platform and years of personal experience as K-12 educators and administrators. Additional information is available at www.palm.com/education.
While at Technology + Learning, educators can stop by the Palm booth (No. 2540) and see an array of solutions that include hardware, educational and productivity software, and wireless communication technologies from the following 10 third-party developers:
-- Bachmann Software produces PrintBoy Deluxe, which allows Palm Powered(TM) device users to wirelessly beam their content to a printer. FilePoint offers file management, including the ability to access data simultaneously, whether on RAM or external memory.
-- Electronics for Imaging will show eBeam, the smallest interactive whiteboard solution available. It enables users to capture meeting notes and diagrams directly to a PC or Mac. Ideas can be viewed, edited, saved, printed and shared across the Internet in real time. Via the new eBeam Imageport interface, meeting notes can be beamed to a Palm Powered handheld or printed directly to a printer.
-- Handmark will demonstrate two of the top educational applications -- 4.0 Student and Wordsmith. 4.0 Student is the premiere coursework and grade- tracking application, and Wordsmith is a leading word processing solution for handheld computers.
-- ImagiWorks, Inc. will show its innovative math and science education solutions. ImagiProbe is sensor-based hardware and software for collecting and analyzing scientific data, and ImagiMath is a math learning environment that contains a mathematics visualizer, a full-featured calculator and an equation solver.
-- Infinity SoftWorks will show its calculator software for mobile computers. At the show, the company is introducing powerOne Graph Version 3.0, which has similar functionality to the TI-83 calculator.
-- Scantron Corporation will demonstrate ClassRoom Wizard, an assessment system for easily, effectively and instantaneously assessing, scoring and analyzing student results in real time in the classroom.
University of Michigan's Hi-CE (Center for the Highly Interactive Computing in Education) has developed a collection of free educational software for classroom use in K-12 education.
-- WideRay has created the Jack mobile caching server for delivering on-demand, on-location content and applications to handheld devices. WideRay's technology allows educational institutions of all levels and sizes to distribute information to students and faculty.
-- Wireless Generation will demonstrate an assessment system for handhelds that streamlines the assessment process of early reading instructions. The web-based reporting tools turn teachers' classroom assessments into a continuous stream of student performance data.
