Olympus Announces W-10 Digital Voice Recorder
Oct. 10 /PRNewswire/ -- Olympus America today introduced the innovative W-10, a digital voice recorder with an 0.3 Megapixel CMOS sensor that captures VGA quality images, so users can reference and organize their digital voice recordings visually using pictures.
Lightweight and compact, the miniature W-10 lets users make instantaneous audio/visual recordings and create slide shows for business and pleasure. Ideal for students, journalists, creative professionals, business users, general consumers and more, the sleek and stylish W-10 digital voice recorder connects to PCs via a high-speed USB interface so users can quickly upload and download WAV audio and JPEG image files to and from their personal computer.
The W-10's 16MB of built-in flash memory provides ample recording time for any kind of lecture, meeting, family event, and personal use -- up to 3 hours in Long Play Mode stored in two voice folders (100 messages each), and up to 250 images stored in one image folder. Its Variable Control Voice Actuator (VCVA) ensures that recording begins only when sound is sensed to maximize use of recording time and conserve battery power.
Voice Album Software
The Olympus W-10 features versatile "Voice Album" software to effectively manage voice and images, so aligning sound recordings with the right images is fast and easy. Users have two choices: they can either capture a VGA image and then attach its corresponding voice file using "Visual Indexes" that pop up during playback. Or they can insert a WAV digital audio recording over the appropriate VGA image for easy reference to create a "Voice Album."
Ergonomic, Efficient, Easy-to-Use
Known worldwide for its award-winning, ergonomically designed digital voice recorders, Olympus adds to its reputation with the uniquely designed W- 10. Its compact dimensions combine all digital voice recorder and camera components into a small, streamlined package measuring only 4.7" x 1.16" x 0.7", and weighing only 2.4 ounces.
The W-10 travels easily anywhere -- from the boardroom to the family get- together.
Small enough to slide into a shirt pocket, the W-10 is as practical as it is easy-to-use. Recordings and images can be edited, moved between folders, and have additional sections inserted into them at any point via the software. The W-10 uses standard JPEG image and WAVE audio formats that can be easily shared over the Internet. A USB cable is provided for problem-free, high-speed downloading to a PC. A special jogwheel and easy-to-read visual display allow thumb-pad navigation for greater ease of operation.
Highly flexible, the W-10 lets users attach images to recordings to better describe them, or add narration to images for greater clarification. The ultimate tool for educational and business conferences, it allows lectures to be fully documented with clear digital sound and accompanying images. The W-10 can be used to record and document vacations, weddings, birthday parties, teleconferencing or face-to-face meetings, advertising thumbnails and storyboards, lectures, real estate demonstrations and more. All kinds of instantaneous recording and slide show presentations are now made possible thanks to the W-10.
"Low-cost, compact and lightweight, the W-10's extraordinary audio and image recording capability greatly expand the potential of the digital voice recorder, while its handsome, ergonomic design fits perfectly into the hands and lifestyles of its users. It's a definite 'must-have' and perfect stocking stuffer for the Holidays," said Andy Flagg, National Sales Manager, Olympus America.
The W-10 will be available in November 2002 at a street price of approximately $99.
