New Wireless Phone Takes and Sends Color Pictures
Oct. 15 /PRNewswire/ -- Camera phones have been available in Japan for more than a year -- where more than 50 percent of all phones sold have embedded cameras. When J-Phone first introduced the world's first embedded camera phone in Japan, it set off Japan's hottest telecom trend since the rise of the mobile internet.
Point, shoot, click and call: this and more is possible with America's first embedded camera phone, the PCS Phone by Sanyo 5300, which was unveiled by Sprint (NYSE:FON)(NYSE:PCS) and Sanyo. It combines the functionality of a digital camera with the clear calls of a PCS Phone. The 5300 is designed to support the PCS Vision applications and services, including downloadable Java-based games, animated ringers and screen savers. Sprint, which operates the largest all-digital, nationwide PCS network and Sanyo will offer the PCS Phone by Sanyo 5300 to customers nationwide in November for $399.99.
The PCS phone offers a VGA digital camera with digital zoom, optional flash and Vision-enabled wireless voice and data communications capabilities. The 2.1-inch color internal screen supports 65,536 colors and provides a vibrant, multi-dimensional experience when viewing photos, screen savers, animated ringers and games. The external Caller ID screen offers the convenience of quickly identifying an incoming call through the phone number or through one of six color selections (red, yellow, black, pea green, celadon green, navy blue, claret).
