New Sony Notebook Helps Road Warriors Make the Most of Small Spaces
June 8 /PRNewswire/ -- A widescreen display, a generous keyboard and an integrated optical drive comprise Sony's next big thing in ultra-portable computing. VAIO S series notebooks, announced today, sport all that and more within a thin, black case that weighs just about four pounds.
The latest addition to the company's summer PC line breaks with convention by offering a 13.3-inch wide format display with Sony's exclusive high contrast X-BRITE display technology for maximum viewing real estate in a minimal package. The full-sized keyboard offers room to work even in cramped quarters.
Powered by Intel Centrino mobile technology, the VAIO S series is prepared to go the distance, delivering up to five hours of work time on a single charge. And integrated wireless access allows mobile professionals to stay plugged in when far from the office. With the onboard combination CD-RW/DVD-ROM drive, users can create and play back multimedia presentations or watch DVD movies when the work day is done.
"The S series is the ultimate survival tool for the mobile professional," said Mike Abary, general manager of VAIO product marketing for Sony Electronics. "Power, performance and a beautiful chassis about the size of a legal pad portfolio make work a pleasure with this PC."
All S series notebooks come with a wealth of connectivity options, including two USB 2.0 ports, a Memory Stick media slot, and an i.LINK (IEEE 1394) digital interface for speedy, no-hassle transfer of digital content among a universe of compatible products. An optional port replicator is also available for easy cable management, whether the machine is on a desk or out on the road.
Sony's VAIO Creation Software Suite adds to the notebook's multimedia appeal. DVgate Plus video editing software allows users to capture and export digital video to and from DV and MICROMV camcorders. The application also includes one-click video capture and precision editing features for easy-to-use, high quality video editing. With the SonicStage application, you can easily manage your digital music files.
The S series also includes VAIO Media software, a simple interface for sharing digital content among PCs or consumer electronics devices on a home network.
VAIO S series notebooks will be available next month at select retail outlets for about $2,000. They can also be purchased online at www.sonystyle.com in a variety of configurations.
