New Royal Linea Personal Digital Assistants
The Linea16 from Royal, with a retail price of $99.99, is perfect for anyone who needs a lot of information available at their fingertips. With 16MB of memory, a built-in 56K dial-up modem and an e-mail client that allows users to send and receive industry-standard e-mail directly from the Linea16, Royal has set new price/performance standards for affordable hand-held devices. Additionally, a rechargeable lithium ion battery and an upgradeable operating system, stored in the unit’s flash memory, positions the Linea16 to compete with higher priced PDA products. The Linea16 is equipped with a large (61mm X 79mm) high-resolution (160x200) RoyalGlo backlit LCD display that is easy to see in any light. For speed and flexibility, the central processing unit (CPU) has been optimized for ultra low power consumption and operates at speeds of up to 40 megahertz to easily handle even the most demanding applications. The Linea16 comes with a richly featured e-mail client as well as a built in dial-up modem that allows users to send and receive e-mail directly from the unit itself. No PC required! An optional snap-on serial module (sold separately, estimated street retail $30.00), allows Linea16 users to also send and receive e-mail wirelessly using their cell phones, along with the serial connection cable available from the respective cell phone manufacturer. This allows users to avoid additional expensive wireless fees. The Linea16 has been designed with industry-standard POP3 connectivity allowing buyers to use the built-in 56K modem and their existing ISP’s to send and receive e-mail. As an added value and convenience, or for those consumers who do not have PCs, Royal will offer consumers a low cost e-mail and content service called RoyalNet, powered by HomeRelay Communications Inc. The RoyalNet Service is available for as little as $9.95 per month, thereby bringing integrated e-mail services to all consumers in one simple, convenient and inexpensive product. RoyalNet subscribers will also be provided with national news, sports, local weather and pre-selected stock quotes with updates provided throughout the day. The Linea16 comes with Royal’s new PDA Desktop PC software, from CompanionLink Software Inc., allowing users to synchronize the Linea16 with a PC so they can take their telephone book, calendar, schedule and to-do list with them wherever they go. The Linea16 comes with a rechargeable lithium battery.
