(Nasdaq: SMSI), a developer and marketer of a wide range of software and service solutions for the wireless and broadband markets, today announced the availability of QuickLink(R) Mobile for Palm OS(R), a software program that makes it possible to wirelessly connect virtually any Palm(TM) handheld to the Internet with nothing more than a mobile phone and the appropriate data cable. The solution gives Palm users access to e-mail, Web pages and other Internet functions from the road without the need to carry a laptop or upgrade to a wireless Palm device.

An extension of Smith Micro's QuickLink(R) Mobile software for laptop computers, the new product is available both to end-users and as a bundling opportunity for mobile phone manufacturers and service providers.

QuickLink(R) Mobile installs on the user's Palm handheld device and transforms any data-capable mobile phone into a wireless modem. The software enables users to configure the phone and create a new Internet dial-up connection in minutes. Users can then access the Internet from their Palm handheld between flights, in a taxi, in a meeting, or anywhere else a landline connection is not readily available. The software also displays the signal and battery strength of the user's mobile phone visually alerting users when the phone is out of service range or the power is running out.

QuickLink(R) Mobile for Palm OS(R) can be used to web-enable any Palm model utilizing Palm OS 3.3 or later. It operates via a mobile phone-specific data cable that attaches to the data or charger port on the phone and the sync port on the handheld. It will be available in the 4th quarter of 2001.
