New Panasonic Electronic Fluorescent Desk Lamp
"In today's economy, employees and students often work longer hours to keep up with heightened work loads," says Lawrence Hershkowitz, Marketing Manager for Panasonic Commercial and Residential Products. "Many people can attest to the discomfort and fatigue brought on by the combined effects of fluorescent light and computer screen flicker. The new Panasonic lamp incorporates several features to reduce the harsh effects of fluorescent lighting, helping to make the workplace environment more conducive to productivity." Conventional fluorescent lamps use a magnetic ballast that cycles at a rate of about 60 times per second. The new Panasonic lamp uses inverter electronic ballast technology, which generates a cycle rate of approximately 50,000 times per second. This higher frequency minimizes the flicker normally associated with conventional fluorescent lighting, helping to diminish eye strain. For those who spend considerable time under fluorescent lights and in front of a computer's video display terminal, the difference in comfort can be dramatic. The electronic ballast also enables the lamp to turn on instantly, and to operate quietly and at a cooler temperature than conventional fluorescent lamps. Also contributing to help reduce eye strain is the lamp's use of a full-spectrum fluorescent bulb. This state-of-the-art bulb produces soothing illumination that is similar to natural daylight, with accurate color rendition and less glare. In addition to maintaining user comfort, the lamp's very efficient 13-watt compact fluorescent bulb also helps conserve energy by producing the equivalent light output of a standard 60-watt incandescent light bulb. Also, the Panasonic bulb is rated for 10,000 hours of operation, so it will last up to ten times longer than the comparable incandescent bulb. For a light source that's positioned at just the right angle, the lamp has an adjustable arm and head that can be moved up and down and from left to right. For times when softer illumination is preferred, the user need only fold down the upper portion of the lamp to create diffused lighting. Lightweight and compact, the new lamp has a clean, contemporary design. Panasonic's model SQT917S electronic fluorescent desk lamp has a manufacturer's suggested retail price (MSRP) of $59.99.
