New Mindjet Software Delivers on Tablet PC Note-Taking Promise

April 30 /PRNewswire/ -- Mindjet today announced availability of MindManager 2002 for Tablet PC. A fully pen-enabled note-taking application, Mindjet's new Tablet PC version has gained the support of Microsoft and major Tablet PC makers for its ability to connect personal notes to the world of team collaboration and decision making. Featuring 18 pen gestures and tight integration with Microsoft Office, MindManager 2002 for Tablet PC lets users build concise visual documents -- called maps -- that allow people to easily capture, organize and share unstructured information typical of meetings, planning sessions and brainstorming. Equipped with Mindjet's new application, information workers can take full advantage of the informality and mobility of the Tablet PC to achieve better information sharing, more effective meetings and increased productivity of both individuals and teams.

"Because of the way MindManager integrates gestures and inking into the Tablet PC interface, my team can focus on the formation and refinement of our ideas in a very natural manner," says Steve G. Weiss, manager of information technology for Priority One Packaging Machinery Ltd. "Not only do I have a tool that captures the development of ideas, but using the map structure, I can communicate those ideas faster and with greater flexibility than if I used text alone."

Utilizing natural, pen-based "Ink and Gesture Control" features, MindManager 2002 for Tablet PC enables information workers to:

  • Create concise, searchable handwritten notes that can be either saved as handwriting or recognized and converted into type
  • Use drag-and-drop functionality to quickly organize note entries
  • Employ a visual structure that clearly communicates relationships among note entries
  • Create sketches and insert them into meeting notes
  • Attach graphics, codes, documents and web links to notes
  • Export notes to Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Outlook and Project, as well as to HTML to integrate content into broader business activities and decision-making processes

Mindjet's MindManager 2002 for Tablet PC has received an enthusiastic reception from Microsoft and leading Tablet PC manufacturers. "MindManager for the Tablet PC is a great example of a new breed of pen-enabled applications for today's information worker," says Bill Mitchell, vice president of the Tablet PC division at Microsoft. "The additional pen and ink capabilities developed using the Tablet PC platform provide users with a rich set of tools to enable a more natural, free-form thought flow." Dan Coffman, product manager for ViewSonic, said recently that "MindManager on the ViewSonic Tablet PC V1100 offers mobile professionals both in the office and on the road a solid, pen-based note-taking solution with full Microsoft Office integration capabilities." Kyle Thornton, senior product marketing manager for Fujitsu's Tablet PC group, says that, "Mindjet's pen-enabled note-taking solution is a natural complement to Fujitsu's Stylistic ST4000 family of Tablet PCs."

Richard Goldberg is chief technology officer for dataDOC Technologies, Inc., which works with health-care-related companies to align business processes and technology with company needs and goals. Goldberg notes that "MindManager allows us to generate map documents that accurately capture our thinking processes. Now the ability to input with either pen or keyboard will allow us to more fully utilize the software to map our thoughts as they occur."

"Even with a Tablet PC, handwritten meeting notes are usually captured linearly, have little structure, take up many pages and lack clarity-all of which limits their usefulness," says Chris Holmes, Mindjet vice president of strategic partnerships. "MindManager's visual note-taking application for the Tablet PC provides all the benefits of electronic note-taking-plus the ability to structure notes as you create them and to contain them in a single, collapsible page view. MindManager 2002 for Tablet PC lets people capture, structure, search and share notes among team members with far greater ease and clarity than other Tablet PC note-taking products allow."

MindManager 2002 for Tablet PC is available in both Business ($189) and Enterprise ($269) versions, with 20 percent off for a limited time (US & Canada).
