New Eye-One Beamer Delivers Consistent Color from Digital Projectors

October 2002 - Photographers that take their images "on the road" and corporate executives and creatives that give digital presentations when traveling or in their own offices can now quickly and easily replicate the great color they originally created whether they are using their own or even rented digital projectors.

GretagMacbeth, worldwide technological leader in color measurement and management solutions, announced at Photokina 2002, the new Eye-One Beamer module. It is the first easy-to-use solution available for ensuring that computer files are accurately displayed and projected.

Eye-One Beamer extends the consistent color reproduction capabilities of the Eye-One color management system for scanners, printers and monitors into the realm of digital presentations and projection. Designed for the creative, not the technical, professional, it provides a portable and easy-to-use color management solution for calibrating and color correcting digital projection devices using ICC profiles.

The Eye-One Beamer package works in conjunction with the Eye-One hand held spectral measuring device that reads color from all sources and on all types of monitors, including flat panel displays, and a USB cable that connects the device to a computer. It also includes the new Eye-One Beamer holder for positioning the Beamer on a projector, as well as a software CD.

Eye-One Beamer software is as easy to use as the other modules in the Eye-One suite. In operation, it takes ease of use to a new level. The user simply mounts the Eye-One onto the Beamer holder, places it on top of the projector and adjusts the beam to be positioned in the center of the projected screen. The software automatically generates an ICC profile and stores it in the appropriate folder on the computer. Automatic calibration adjusts the color and stores this information in the computer's video card to match the target. The software even alerts the user to ensure the process is simple, fast and painless. Additional custom features are available for more experienced users wishing to further fine-tune color or adjust the contrast and brightness of the projector.

"Eye-One Beamer, the first of it's kind, is an ideal, portable solution for photographers, corporate executives, ad agencies, designers, and A-V firms that need to ensure they get the best color possible from digital projectors," says Francis Lamy, Executive Vice President and Chief Technology Officer at GretagMacbeth AG. "After all, corporate presenters spend hours tweaking their presentations and photographers painstakingly adjust the color in their images before showing them, but then they use projectors that don't deliver the colors they intended. Eye-One Beamer lets them easily calibrate the projectors and use ICC profiles to deliver the great color they worked so hard to achieve."

Product availability
Eye-One Beamer is currently in beta testing. It is expected to ship in December 2002 and will be available in versions for both Macintosh OS X and Windows 2000 and XP platforms.
