New Epson Stylus CX6400 Scan-Print-Copy Device
Oct. 2003 -- Epson is launching a new scan-print-copy device that is optimized for office-level workloads and busy households with the EPSON Stylus CX6400. This low-profile, space-saving device triples as a scanner, PC-free printer and PC-free color copier, offering a high-end combination of features and performance. Some of these include a digital locking feature, Epson's new photo restoration technology and easy-to-navigate LCD panel with lights that help guide users through menu choices. It also incorporates Epson's renowned DURABrite inks and several advanced imaging tools for everyday text and imaging needs, in addition to a variety of input slots for today's most popular memory cards.
"This product is really a high performance digital workhorse for the office or even a busy home with a huge array of printing, scanning and copying needs," said Andreas Goehring, senior product manager, Epson. "The combination of the Stylus CX6400's productivity, ease-of-use and new and innovative features make it one of the most versatile products on the market and an outstanding investment."
Priced for only $199 (suggested retail price), the EPSON Stylus CX6400 prints documents quickly, up to 22 pages per minute (ppm) in black and up to 11 ppm in color. The printer is also extremely quiet due to a newly designed engine and mechanism. Furthermore, a new security lock feature allows users to enter a personalized identification number to lock out the control panel on the device and prevent unauthorized use - and ideal feature and potential cost saver for high traffic environments such as busy offices and college dorms.
DURABrite Inks - Water, Smudge and Light Resistance
The EPSON Stylus CX6400 uses DURABrite inks for natural, vibrant-looking
colors and is designed to produce impressive looking, durable output that
is
water-resistant, light-resistant and smudge-resistant. Because DURABrite
inks are pigment-based, output can be submerged in water without the ink
coming off the page, unlike dye-based inks, which typically run and
smudge.
This feature is designed to give creators of photographs, fliers, menus, signs, postcards and any other printed output the ability to produce documents and images that will withstand damage caused by moisture-based threats such as rain, spills, humidity or people with wet hands. Bleed-through is also reduced since DURABrite inks rest on the surface of the paper, which is ideal for applications that require double-sided printing.
The Stylus CX6400 also offers frame-ready, borderless photographs in several popular sizes and up to 5,760 x 1,440 optimized dpi and ultrafine three-picoliter ink droplets for sharp, vivid images. It also takes advantage of a convenient and cost-effective individual ink cartridge system.
Memory Card Slots
In addition to high-speed color printing, the Stylus CX6400 features a
wide
selection of input slots designed to work with today's most popular memory
cards to enable PC-free printing and copying. PC-free features include
printing an index sheet or photo (or even a range of photos) directly from
the media card, and with the 10-digit keypad, users can easily select the
desired number of prints. Memory cards supported include CompactFlash I
and
II, Sony Memory Stick, Memory Stick Pro, Sony MagicGate SD, Smart Media,
Secure Digital, MultiMediaCard, IBM Microdrive, xD-Picture Card and Mini
Secure Digital (using an optional adapter). The Stylus CX6400 is also the
first Epson all-in-one that can scan an image and save it directly to a
memory card.
Scanning, Photo Restoration and PC-Free Color Copying
The Stylus CX6400 features a high-performance, full-function scanner.
This
built-in 1200 x 2400, 48-bit color scanner includes exclusive EPSON Easy
Photo Fix(tm) software, which gives users an easy solution for restoring
color to old photographs with one touch of a button. The Stylus CX6400
also
delivers fully automated scanning plus two advanced scanning modes for
advanced custom control. New EPSON Smart Panel software enables users to
quickly scan photos, text or graphics with extreme detail to the Internet,
an e-mail software program or a faxing software program.
This all-in-one also features a standalone color copier. Users can produce long-lasting, high-resolution, borderless color copies without even turning on their personal computer. Furthermore, they can create 2-up and 4-up copies to conserve paper and use a "repeat copy" mode for multiple copies on the same page, such as business cards.
Media Flexibility and New DURABrite Ink Glossy Photo Paper
The EPSON Stylus CX6400 offers great results on different types of media
ranging from ordinary plain paper to DURABrite Ink Glossy Photo Paper, the
newest paper to join the wide assortment of Epson media. This new paper
was
designed especially for use with DURABrite ink to create bright,
beautiful,
borderless glossy prints that are water-resistant, light-resistant and
smudge-resistant. DURABrite Ink Glossy Photo paper will be available in
two
popular sizes - 4" x 6" (50 sheet packs) and letter size (20 sheet
packs) -
for $9.99 and $12.99, respectively, and will be available at the end of
September. This new all-in-one also supports a variety of other Epson
specialty media including Epson Premium Bright White Paper, Glossy Photo
Paper, Matte Paper Heavyweight, and Ink Jet Transparencies.
Individual Ink Cartridges
The EPSON Stylus CX6400 includes four separate "snap-in/snap-out" ink
cartridges to maximize ink yield - one extra-large black ink cartridge and
three color ink cartridges (cyan, yellow and magenta). Since these
individual color inks can be replaced at any time, efficiency is
maximized,
lowering the total cost of ownership. Each cartridge also contains a chip
that relays ink level information on the screen to the user via the
printer
driver, while self-sealing valves preserve the inks up to six months once
removed from the printer. Therefore, partially depleted cartridges can be
reinserted for later use.
The EPSON Stylus CX6400 works with both Windows and Macintosh platforms and is capable of large-quantity printing when needed. The printer's paper input tray holds up to 150 sheets of plain paper. It uses USB 2.0 High Speed connectivity and includes a USB cable in the box.
Warranty and Support
The Stylus CX6400 is currently shipping to computer superstores and
specialty retail stores nationwide and can also be purchased through mail
order, PC manufacturers, the Internet and Epson's own site at
www.epsonstore.com. This product also carries a one-year Epson Exchange
Limited Warranty, enabling customers to receive a replacement printer if a
problem cannot be corrected by telephone technical support. It is also
supported by the EPSON Connection, a customer support and technical
assistance line. For more information on Epson and its products, call
